Show Sentinel Guardian of Your Community News Seniors bring home the gold NEBO FOOTBALL CONFERENCE 6TH GRADE TEAM Three Spanish Fork senior softballers recently won 30 medals in the Masters Challenge at Provo. Ray Morgan led with 14, Stan Michelsen took 11 and George "Goose" Beardall was awarded five. Morgan finished in the 60 age-division first in pitching and hitting. Morgan also got gold in track for the 50,100,200 and 1,500 meter races. He topped all divisions for the 200. Michelsen was successful in his competition with 70-year-olds, setting a hitting record for all age groups. He finished first in pitching and second in throwing. New this year was a Heritage Competition with the participants teaming with a child and grandchildren in the intergenerational competition. Morgan, with his son Cory and grandchildren Makade, Alex and Alyssa, added 12 more golds in track and soft- ball, a clean sweep. The Michelsens, with son Nate and granddaughter Annalise Buonomo, came away with the best possible in softball: eight gold medals. Camp is included as part of the league fee and will be instructed by Coach Brindley and his staff. Teams will be divided and begin practicing after camp is completed. Wrestling matches and practices will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Wrestlers who desire to attend tournaments will be supplied with tournament information. Sign up at Salem Parks & Recreation office. Early registration deadline is Oct. 7, 2009. Wrestlers will be weighed at camp. Weight will be used for matchups throughout the year. Camp will be held in the Salem Hills High School wrestling room. Please enter through the Northwest doors. Camp is included in the registration fee. Camp is two evenings. K-2nd grade will meet 6:30-7:30 p.m., 3rd6th grade, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Salem 6 on 6 Soccer Fest 6 on 6 youth soccer tournament. This event is an open tournament for travel teams, clubs and friendly teams. 6 divisions of play: Girls lOu, llu, 12u and Boys lOu, llu and 12u will play the following week, Oct. 27, 28 and 29. Teams are guaranteed 4 games over the first two evenings of play, October 20 and 21. Semifinals and Finals will be played Oct. 22. Rules: 6 players on the field at one time, goalie included. Two 20 minute halves. No off sides. Field Size 70 yards X 50 yards. The game is very similar to futsal. Great for working on ball movement, passing and getting shots off quickly. Team fee $175.00 paid by Oct. 1. $200.00 after the first. Fees will be used for awards and improvement of Salem Youth Soccer facilities. Come play with us! Adopt a Tree Salem Parks and Recreation will sponsor the second annual family adopt a tree day. This program is set up to allow families or donors to purchase a tree 15 to 20 feet tall - that will be planted at one of the ball parks located here in Salem. Cost per tree is $250 and. will include a marker that will be placed at the base of the tree to commemorate or memorialize the tree donor. This program is a great opportunity to beautify our parks while starling a family tradition / heritage. Trees will be planted the first week of November, with holes being prepared by Salem City Parks crews. Trees will be purchased by the City Parks Department and delivered to designated locations. Families will have the option to plant their tree or have the City Parks Crew do it for them.
