My Unintentional Life Madison's Avenue by "Big Al" and "Farnzy" Where did the time go?? That's what members of Payson High School's class of 1959 wondered as they gathered at the Peteetneet Academy and Museum for their 50th year class reunion. Benjamin was well represented on the committee with Lucille Argyle and Verla Richardson as part of those putting the celebration together. About 110 attended and enjoyed a chuck wagon dinner prepared by Brindley Dutch Oven. A nicely prepared and fun yearbook was handed out along with a special DVD prepared by one of the classmates. Also, part of the evening's entertainment for those who wished was a tour of the Peteetneet where some attended elementary school. Leslie Urmston (also from Benjamin) took a group picture plus other pictures during the evening which will be keepsakes for years to come. Those attending from Benjamin included Verla Richardson, Wayne and Diane Miller, and Bert and Lucille Argyle. Verla was also named to be on the next reunion's committee. ••• There is a very different look in Benjamin along 7300 South. This will be broadcast at various stake centers including the Spanish Fork West Stake Center in Spanish Fork. The West Stake's Relief Society presidency is preparing a supper for sisters which will be served at 5 p.m. after which the conference will be viewed in the chapel. All Relief Society sisters are invited to attend. One of my favorite parts of this season is the Sol* dier Hollow Sheep Dog Trials held the Labor Day weekend at Soldier Hollow near Midway, Utah. We were able to attend on the opening day of this year's meet. It was a little warm but, otherwise, a beautiful day to watch amazing dogs (usually border collies) and their handlers move small groups of five sheep from high on the hill side down through some gates, around the handler, through two more sets of gates, back to a marked circle, separate the five sheep into two groups of two and three, put the groups back together again and ultimately pen the sheep in a small pen within a thirteen minute time limit. It is quite tense to watch the dog match wits with the sheep who do not especially care whether they do what the dog wants them to or not. The sheep come directly from the open range where they have not had much contact with either people or dogs. Like the announcer commented: "To the sheep, the dog looks like some sort of strange coyote and so * they don't have much confidence or trust in it." It is also fascinating to see the trust between the dogs and their handlers and how the handler, standing at the post, can help the dog bring the sheep through a series of whistles and hand signals. It was also a good lesson to watch unfold as it seemed the handlers who were calm and more quiet seemed to get better reactions from their dogs. It's not only very fascinating to watch the contestant dogs but it also the dogs helping the herders set the sheep out up on the hill and those who help gather the small flocks after their thirteen minutes are done. Those dogs have to be alert but they also have to stay out of the way of the contestant dogs. For those who enjoy watching outstanding dogs along with their handlers do their work, the show at Soldier Hollow can't be beat. A unique anniversary tradition Happiness is Homemade Marilyn M. Atwood My wedding anniversary is usually a quiet celebration for the two of us. I like fixing Mike his favorite dinner and staying at home. He prefers taking me out to my favorite restaurant. We rarely plan a romantic get-away because June is the time to get my garden growing. My brother, Michael, however has a very unique anniversary tradition. He and his wife, Maria, host a party for friends and family. Their annual Jell-OFest has become an event that I look forward to every year. Maria and Michael came up with this idea sixteen years ago. Jell-0 was not normally served at their home because of the high sugar content. They thought it would be great fun just once a year to splurge and have a buffet of anything made with' Jell-O. Activities include a Jell-0 puzzle and singing the famous "Jell-0 Song" in a round. That was the beginning of what is now a fun get-together.planned around their special day, September sixth. This year's fest was well attended. Over 50 people came representing 16 different families. Sixteen creative Jell-0 items were entered into the contest. Milton Moody baked pastries filled with cheesecake pudding and lingonberry jam. Milo Calvin Moody . brought a lime Jell-0 salad, the kind that made our state famous. (Utah is the only state to prefer lime. Jell-0 over red!) Rachel Jones brought a chocolate dessert that was amazing, and Elisabeth Oldham won the award for the "Most Original Use of Jell-O," sculpting a snowman out of JellO and a little bit of water. Everyone who entered got a prize and an elegant certificate of merit. I was honored to win the "Sweepstakes" award with my Angel Berry Delight. The celebration is not limited to Provo. This year, my sister and her husband enjoyed Lime Cottage Cheese Salad in Switzerland. Michael and Maria have held their JellO Fest in Haiti for three years and one year in Jerusalem. The next three years they will have their party in paradise: Michael will be a temple president in Tahiti. So while they will be packing three packages of Jell-0 and leaving us, their children will carry on with the tradition here. After all, Utah is the Jell-0 Capital of the World (www.awesomeamerica.com) and the Moody family knows how to celebrate.
