The Lady Dons relaxed and played fierce volleyball in the second set. SF jumped out early 5-2 and built their lead on two-and three-point runs. Salem could not string any rally together, and the Lady Dons built a 13—4 lead on big spikes and blocks. The Dons won the second set convincingly 25-12. Spanish Fork came out with a balanced attack as they looked to put the Lady Skyhawks away in three sets. The scoring was fast and furious as both teams sided out and the score bounced back and forth. 'Finally the Dons opened a !l2—9 lead and Salem could pot recover as the Lady Dons served and dug every point to put the match away 25-17. The enjoyable sight at the end of the game was to watch past teammates from 2007 congratulate their friends at center court. Great sportsmanship goes to the Lady Dons and Lady Skyhawks. "Our confidence is rising; we are learning to play through difficult situations. These SF girls served incredibly tonight. This was a fun game to win and I am so proud of the girls. The ladies took to the 3.1 mile course first, as Bethany Carson led the way with a strong second place overall finish, after Salem Hills' Margo Brockbank. Bethany's time of 20:15 kept her in the hunt for the number one spot until the final straightaway. Coming in close behind was Ashley Phelps, with a seventh place overall finish and a time of 21:14. Senior Jenn Lowe placed 12th overall in 23:12 with Adelay Duffin 14th in 24:04. Sam Raleigh completed the fifth scoring spot for the Lady Dons, finishingin the 18th spot at 25:04. In cross country, each team scores their top five runners. Salem Hills placed first as a team, with the Spanish Fork girls coming in second. On the boys side, sophomore Spencer Hansen placed second overall, only two seconds behind the winner. Spencer's time of 16:58 was his best of the young season. Brandon Poulter put on a strong kick to finish in the same time and third overall. Tanner Tagg ran his best race of the year, finishing sixth with a time of 17:28. Seniors David Nester and Nolan Haycock finished ninth and 10th in 17:43 and 17:46 respectively. Coaches Kovatch and Boyack were thrilled to have all five scoring runners finish in the top ten. To have your number one runner only 48 seconds ahead of your fifth scoring runner makes your team difficult to beat. The Spanish Fork boys were just that as they finished first overall. 65 total runners competed in the boys competition. ONE-TWO-THREE: The boys' race came down to the wire. Salem's Justin Sly came in first, with Spanish Fork's Spencer Hansen and Brandon Poulter finishing second and third, respectively.
