The undefeated Jayhawks of St. Joseph's ran away with a lopsided 9-0 victory. ALA held their own against South Summit, but the Wildcats managed to come away with the 1-0 win against the Eagles. Pictured, above, Karen Diaz chases a ball against South Summit. Salem Rec. notes Matt Marziale SALEM REC. HAWKS VS. SKYHAWKS: The Salem Hills girls tennis team welcomed North Sanpete on Sept. 11. For the most part, the Hawks had the Skyhawks' number as North Sanpete came away with wins in every varsity category except first singles, where Danielle Jones, above, defeated her North Sanpete counterpart. The Lady Skyhawks traveled to Juan Diego on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and take on Carbon at home Thursday, Sept. 18. ALA Football SFHS Tennis Soaring Hoopsters First and second grade boys and girls that want to join the Soaring Hoopster basketball program should sign up now. This program is a five-week, Tuesday/ Thursday evening program. Participants will be taught proper basketball skills that will be helpful in their future basketball development. This program is formatted in a clinic style with recreation staff teaching skills and assisting coaching in running drills. Each session will end with short, match-up games. Cost for this program is $30, if paid by Sept. 25, 2008. Space in this program is limited so sign up early. 1 Salem Youth Volleyball Girls interested in learning to play volleyball in an educational, yet competitive, format should sign up for Youth Fall Volleyball now. This program will be run by Coach Kathy Treanor and her team. They will focus on teaching the basic skills to playing volleyball. Each session will work on a skill focus and then move to build on them in game settings. This program is for girls fifth to ninth grade. This is a Wednesday/ Friday program. Early registration deadline is Sept. 29, 2008. For more information call 423-1035. Salem Little League Wrestling Boys kindergarten to sixth grade should sign up now for little league wrestling. Wrestlers are encouraged to sign up and join this year's teams. Wrestling practices will be held weekday evenings at Salem Hills High School. Matches will be held in Salem and Payson. A little league camp will be held Oct. 22-23, 2008; team practices will begin the following camp. Early registration deadline is Oct. 12, 2008. League fee is $30. Camp fee is $5. League t-shirt is $6. Coaches are needed for this program. Fathers may volunteer now. Coming Soon Watch for infon on men's basketball and women's fall volleyball information. Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News ROAD TRIP: The Eagles traveled to Emery Friday, Sept. 12 to take on the Spartans. As in past games, ALA struggled offensively, and were unable to answer Emery's 34 points. The Eagle defense did shut down the Spartan offense during the third quarter, however. ALA will take on Manti Friday, Sept. 19 in their region opener and homecoming game. Above, Bryson Telaroli takes off on a kick return. SAM'S PREP OF THE WEEK Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News REBUILDING: The Lady Dons tennis team is in a rebuilding year, having lost Dons had lost five of their top seven players from last year. The Dons dropped both of their matches last week, one to American Fork, 3-2, and the other to Lone Peak, 5-0. Merrell's position as setter could be compared to the point guard in basketball or the quarterback in football - she doesn't score most of the points, but she sees what's going on on the floor and decides where the ball will go.
