CIVICS: On Friday, March 5, fifth-graders at Brockbank Elementary visited the Utah State Capitol Building. Representative Mike Morley's staff gave students a tour of the newly renovated capitol building and also arranged for the students to be announced from the House floor. Students enjoyed watching legislators in session from the gallery above. Pictured is Mrs. Cynthia Loreen's fifth-grade class on the steps of the State Capitol. Diamond Fork Junior shows off some Seuss Kari Nay DFJH PTA With colorful backgrounds right out of the Seuss storybooks. Diamond Fork Jr. High presented "Seussical, Jr." on March 10-13, 2010. Cast members dressed in marvelous costumes sang and danced the story of Horton the Elephant who must save the tiny world of Who on his clover blossom. Directed by drama teacher Kara Poulsen. about 160 DFJHS students participated in bringing about this entertaining musical. Not only did students act and sing, they designed and built the scenery, painted signature Seuss fish, ran the lights and sound, sewed costumes and more. Congratulations to the students on a wonderful production. Kudos also go to DFJH faculty and staff and the many parent volunteers for making "the thinks you can think" a reality. East Meadows 0 PIONEERS: On Thursday, March 4, the fourth-grade students at Brockbank Elementary celebrated their Utah Heritage with a pioneer program. Students and parents came dressed in pioneer/cowboy attaire to sing and dance like the pioneers did so many years ago. COLLECTION CAMARADERIE: In the true spirit of friendship and teaching, Ron Moss, a technician at East Meadows Elementary, has chosen to share his Native American memorabilia with students. A beautiful glass display case that was donated to the East Meadows library needed filling, and Ron volunteered to bring his personal collection of interesting items for the showcase. He has collected various objects throughout the years, and delights in telling the students about the origins and tribes from which they came. East Meadows staff and students would like to thank him for his kindness, generosity and the wonderful educational opportunity. Courtesy photos SPELLING BEE: Brockbank Elementary third-graders recently held their spelling bee, held in conjunction with the Spanish Fork Rotary Club and their donation of a dictionary for every third-grade student, which they received in the fall. Spelling bees were held in the individual classrooms during the month of February and the top four winners from each class competed with each other to determine a winner. Classroom winners were from Mrs. Linda Argyle/ Mrs Lisa Muirbrooks class: Blaine Bradford, Olivia Smith, Ethan Oyler and Luke Jensen; from Mrs. Carolyn Creer's class: Rae'Lynn Wetzel, Kaden Armour, Mikelle Larsen and Isaiah Ruiz; from Mrs. Kathy Moon's class: Julia Hult, Amanda Mitchell, Paige Tomadakis and Anna Mockett. Overall winners were Blaine Bradford - first place, Julia Hult - second place and Ethan Oyler - third place. The Sentinel BOCKS Courtesy photos DADS ANDS DONUTS: On Wednesday evening, March 10, dads gathered up their kids and took them to the annual Dads and Donuts event at East Meadows Elementary. Those that attended enjoyed eating donuts while reading books with their students and visiting with neighbors. It's a great tradition that many look forward to each year.
