Show B6 • WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2010 Sentinel Guardian of \ o/rr Commnmly News Mt Loafer DISNEY DAY: Dec. 5, 2009, was Disney Day at Mt. Loafer Elementary. The 5th grade students at Mt. Loafer dressed as their favorite Disney character and had a day of fun. Students used problem solving skills to plan a vacation to Disney Land with a limited amount of money. Students had to calculate the cost of travel, hotels and a day in the park, it was a great day for the fifth grade. Pictured above, from left to right, are students Bryton Shepherd, Talia Christensen, Audrey Miller and Hannah Loveland in their Disney attire. SNOW BIZ: On Dec. 28, 2009, the 4th, 5th and 6th grade students from Mt. Loafer performed the winter play "Snow Biz." Mrs. Robin Brown was the producer and director of this program. Student body and parents were entertained as the upper grade students sang and danced about the wonders of winter. CAROLING: Mt. Loafer students and faculty shared the Chnshnas spirit with families living near the school. Each grade level walked to a nearby '.v-r.v. and sang carols, delivered a book and a warm blanket to the residents. CHRISTMAS CAROL: Mt. Loafer Elementary 4th grade students from Mrs. Turner's class presented their annual production of "A Christmas Carol." Mrs. Turner's students' delighted parents and student body with this wonderful version of the famous Charles Dickens story. Courtesy photos WAX MUSEUM: Friday Dec. 4, 2009T 5th grade students at Mt. Loafer participated in a wax museum. Students read a biography of an important person in American history, wrote a report, typed a summary sheet of the historical figure and came to school dressed as the American figure. Parents and students enjoyed strolling through the museum, learning more about historical America and those who helped make it great. Pictured above is Courtney Cox portraying Sacagawea. CRYSTAL APPLE: Sandy Nelson is a wonderful kindergarten teacher nt Mt. Loafer Elementary School. Sandy has been teaching for 19 years. She has shctocl her talent for teaching with three schools; Lake Shore Elementary, Salem Elements y and Mt. Loafer Elementary. Sandy works half-time as a kindergarten teacher and the other half of her day is spent teaching "reading recovery" to first grade students. Her anility to reach struggling students is amazing. Sandy is also the school representative on the Salem City Emergency Management Committee. She is invaluable in her duties foi \\;e school and community. Sandy is the wife of Reed Nelson. Together they have six children and seven grandchildren. |
