Senior Katelyn Elliott led the Dons with three hits in four plate appearances including a single, double and triple, while Cami Robinson picked up the .victory on the mound. Twenty-four hours later the Dons continued their hot start with a 157 victory over their rivals at Springville High. The Dons blasted the Devils with 16 hits over seven innings, including three ground-rule doubles in the first inning by seniors Tina Ferguson and Leah Adamson along with sophomore Lyndsey Healey. All three hits more than likely would have been home runs, however Springville had not yet put up fences for the season. Healey picked up an inside-thepark home run for her second hit of the game a few innings later. Seniors Kylee Brinkerhoff and Tina Ferguson led the Dons with three hits and three RBI each. Spanish Fork then traveled to St. George for their annual Sunshine Tournament. This year Coach Andrews scheduled several challenging opponents, beginning with Spring Valley High and South Ridge High from Las Vegas Nevada. The Dons continued their doubledigit offensive explosions, posting an 11-0 victory in five innings. The night cap, however, proved to be a little more, difficult as the Dons squeaked out a 6-4 victory South Ridge. The Dons defense showed some early-season rust as they committed seven errors in seven innings. Junior Dezlee Roberts kept the Mustangs off balance picking up her second victory of the season. Saturday proved to be a little more difficult for the Lady Dons. After posting impressive wins on Friday, the Dons dropped their first game of the season in a 7-3 loss to Oaks Christian High School from Southern California. The Dons had their opportunities, leaving 10 runners on base, but they were unable to pick up a timely hit. Freshman Kailey Christensen was a bright spot for the Dons as she relieved starter Cami Robinson in the fourth inning and gave up just two runs in her first varsity start., The Dons recovered quickly in their next game, pounding 4A perennial power Murray 8-2 for their fifth win of the season. The Dons were led offensively by Tina Ferguson and Kylee Brinkerhoff both who had multihit games. The final game of the tournament did not go as well for the Dons, as they dropped a 10-7 decision to the host Dixie Flyers. Spanish Fork's pitchers were unable to shutdown the Flyers, who posted as many runs in one game as the Dons had given up all season. Spanish Fork finished their seven-game opening week with five wins and two losses.
