What a city. If you didn't have fun at Fiesta Days it's no ones fault but your own. A fun time was had by all. There was dancing and entertainment, three great parades (children's, stock, and the grand parade), fun and games at the park, great concession stands, a touchingflagretirement ceremony, baby contest, quilt show, art, crafts, fun run, four sell-out nights at the rodeo, and to top off the events there was a fireworks display with music. I would like e to thank Everett and Niki Kelepolo for being this year's chairmen. They truly did a remarkable job. Also thanks to Mike and Alisha Norris, past chairmen; and Terry and Liz Shephard our vice-chairmen for making this celebration run so smoothly. I take my hat off to Evone Brown for overseeing the stock parade and to Aaron and Stacey Peterson for a spectacular grand parade. Thanks to Steve Money and Elaine Hansen for all your hard work. There are not enough words to express my thanks. Angie Warner, thanks to you from the bottom of my heart. A sincere thanks to all of the volunteers for your service, and thanks to all of you citizens for your support. You help to make this a city to be proud of and I am grateful to be a part of it. And to all the city staff and employees — thank you. You truly are special to me. I love this city with all my heart and I'm glad I could be a part of such a wonderful celebration. Let's do it again next year. Richard Davis Councilman for Fiesta Days Effective reminder on profanity There and Back Again Shirlene R. Ottesen Your chuckle for the week: "A woman was unable to get to the grocery store because her car wouldn't start. After a half hour of trying, she called her husband at his office to see if he had any suggestions. "Did you try choking it?" he asked. "No," she said, gritting her teeth, "but I sure felt like it!" Every once in a while something happens so unexpectedly and quite unusual that you just keep thinking about it for days. And that's what happened to me a week ago. I was trying to cross the Canyon Road at the Kmart intersection. The traffic was heavy and the light was red. So I waited for the light to turn and as usual, all the big rigs were barreling through so they would have enough speed to make it up the hill that is soon after the light. I almost missed the big, white semi but I'm so glad I didn't. What was unusual? For one thing there was no sign to indicate the company of the truck. It wasn't any kind of a major trucking firm. The truck was painted a bright white color, but on the side, with big letters all in red the whole length of the truck were the words, "Jesus Christ is the Lord". BUILDER OF CUSTOM HOMES FOR 30 YEARS and below it in somewhat smaller lettering, the phrase, "Not a Swear Word." I just kept looking at it as it advanced up the road and thought, "Wow, that's the first and oniy time I've ever seen anything like that!" Can you imagine the millions of people who have seen such an important message on that truck as it has criss-crossed our country! As this driver has stopped at different places to grab a bite to eat or to fill up the gas tank, I'm sure he has heard a variety of comments about this message on his truck. Well, it was an effective reminder about what our speech should be. Profanity is so widely accepted now. or Ours R«cfrfarComfrucffofl by "Big Al" and "Farnzy" HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING t'K- -••*,!' I'm glad I don't work in a place where it is accepted and part of everyday language and conversation. Here on our farm, there are occasions where some words will slip out. I know it's not a valid excuse, but working with animals sometimes tries you to the limit. One time we were trying to get a heifer in the barn to milk her for the first time and believe me, she was not a happy camper and derermined not to cooperate. She was aftaid of the noise of the milking machinery, the other cows and us trying to get her in the barn to shut her head in the stall. bryant 9 Hasting * Cooling Systems • Service • Furnace Replacements • A/C Add Ons • Green Sticker • Financing OAC WHATEVER IT TAXES 798-1700 "Dad, we're bored.
