Spanish Fork WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2007 • A3 Forgetting what to do From ELEMENTARY • A2 Ramblin' Roads Charla Zeeman Do it! Okay, I have no problem with doing it, my problem is when to do it. It doesn't need doing until tomorrow, so I will put it off until then. The problem is, that between now and tomorrow morning, when it needs to be done, I have somehow forgotten all about it. Then later, much later than tomorrow morning, I remember it. My question is ,why? Why do I forget it? I could have some exotic disease which causes me to forget. Or I could be suffering with some natural problem, like plain old forgetful ness, senility, old age, or some other reason. I could have the beginnings of Alzheimer's or maybe Parkinson's disease. Or how about a brain tumor or maybe a stroke. However, none of the other symptoms of these diseases exist, so we will rule them out. Besides, I have had this problem much too long for any of these to be the problem. More than likely the reason is much more simple than any of these. Maybe doing it is not really that important to me. Or perhaps I simply have too much on my mind at the time. Or maybe something else simply seems more important at the time. Most of the things I forget are really important to me. I really want to do them. And most of the time, they would take a short amount of time to do them. At the most, the things I forget about would take less than a couple of hours to do. Okay, maybe I have too much on my mind at the time. Let's see, how many things are on my mind? Hmm! My truck is acting up, or rather not acting at all. Every time I step outside, I am attacked by a swarm of wasps one at a time. I have weeds higher than my head in one area of my yard. I have three or four appointments this week. Plus, I always suffer from a few interruptions like an unknown person calling on the phone, a salesman just dropping in, or maybe a call from a child or grandchild. No, that couldn't be the. cause. * Someone else suggested that not only do I over-book what I have to do, or think I have to do, but I also make a to-do list. So the last couple of weeks there has been no to-do, list. Therefore, I don't book at all. I just do whatever happens to appear to need to be done. In the back of my mind, the list of appointments hovers like a bunch of hawks waiting to pounce on me. I need to go back to the to-do lists. Otherwise, I will either forget to do things, or I will forget when they need to be done. This happened last night. I diligently delivered a package to a friend a week early. If the need for the package reappears in my head next week, I might just duplicate all my efforts. Okay, so what do I think is causing t h i s problem? I think it is a combination of things. I am much older than 21, I have' a lot on ; .. * ' < i • ' . No ojie calls to remind me of things. After all, I'm a reasonable adult most of the time. New things bounce in right when I should be doing whatever it is I forgot to do. ' So I need to write a list, plan my days better, and do it now, while I still remember what I'm supposed to do. flftt *''' . ~> • ' ' i ' • • " • • • ' • ' ' ; • • • • • ' : ' : . ; ' • • ' : - LARRY D. The Rees school was built as built in 1920 and named after Joseph A Rees, a prominent educator. Another school previously occupied the same location and was called the Ideal School. The Rees underwent several additions, adding new classrooms, lunch room and auditorium. It served the community until the school year ended in 2003.
