Show -NEWS- a publication of Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Royal Te An opportunity to get to know the Spanish Fork Royalty Marilyn Nielson STAFF WRITER Ashlee Jex, this year's new Miss Spanish Fork, along with royalty from other cities in the area, will be attending this year's second annual Fiesta Days "Royal Tea " held at the Primrose Spa in Spanish Fork. The tea is chance for local children to meet and have lunch with the "princesses" in a fun and enjoyable setting. "Last year, we held an event for all the different cities' royalty to meet and get to know each other," explained Alicia Norris, the coordinator for the event. "It was a great success, and we thought, wouldn't the little girls around here love it if they could come and meet these 'real princesses' too?" Norris also stressed that "boys are welcome too, of course!" With the sponsorship of the Primrose Spa, the idea became a reality. This year, after the parade on July 24, the city royalties will have a meetand-greet at the spa. Then; from 11 a.m.-l p.m., the public is invited to come and meet the royalty. The event will be free, but those interested in an RSVP package can enjoy a light luncheon and pictures with the princesses, for a small fee. The amount is still to be determined, but Norris said it will be under $15. "The royalty will all be wearing really pretty, Cinderella-type dresses," said Norris. "We aren't going to have them wear their parade dresses, but something really princess-like and pretty." The Primrose Spa will also have other services available during the event. "The spa has an area called 'Spoiled Rotten,1" said Norris. "It's a place where little girls can dress up, get their fingernails and toenails painted, get their hair done, and then walk down a runway and model their clothes. There's a big TV and a karaoke machine, so they can watch themselves walk down the runway on TV. It's really fun for the little girls." The event will be one of Ashlee Jex's first chances to meet with the community as Miss Spanish Fork. *Tve wanted to be Miss Spanish Fork my whole life," Jex said, "so this is a dream come true for me." Jex's platform as Miss Spanish Fork is called "The Dream to Achieve: Mentoring Youth to Set Goals." She has developed a six-step process which she teaches to school-age children to help them achieve their dreams. She is also raising money for children who don't have the financial freedom to achieve their dreams, and has donated money to an orphanage in Romania as well. Jex will be attending Utah Valley University in the Fall, where she has a Presidential Leadership Scholarship. She will be majoring in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance. Jex has several other hobbies as well. "I love to read; I love to sing and dance —I love all the arts." She played the piano for the talent competition at the Miss Spanish Fork pageant. To meet Jex and other local "princesses," attend the Royal Tea during Fiesta Days. "This is a great chance for the girls to meet the community they are serving," said Norris. "And we hope it will inspire little girls to compete in pageants when they get older. Some communities are getting rid of their scholarship pageants, but we hope we'll have lots of little girls who dream of reaching that goal sometime in the future." m 19 |
