Show % -NEWS- Covering what matters most Holiday Spanish Fork remembers memories Community loved ones passed on WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2007 - A3 'Round and About Benjamin Kathleen Olsen ' Here we are — into December with its unique time filled with lights, music, secrets, and joyous feelings because of this special season which lends itself to traditions tying the years together. A tradition of longstanding in our area is that of "The Making pf the Gingerbread Houses" in the family of Marion and Pat Wride. :; This project started over 35 years ago !when a friend showed Pat the gingerbread bouse she had made. Pat decided that would t>e a fun activity for her family to do, little idealizing that was the beginning of a longstanding tradition. : Each year on Thanksgiving weekend, Pat, Marion, and their five children would put together their gingerbread houses. Their home would radiate with delicious smells of the gingerbread, plus the icing and the candy decorations. The end results of their efforts were lovely decorated houses that served as part of their Christmas decorations. • Year after year this continued, even as the five children grew older. Some of their friends were drawn into helping with the houses and as weddings in the family came along, spouses were added to the gingerbread house crew. Missionaries from the family can count on receiving a gingerbread house at Christmas time. This year, a house is heading to Little Rock, Ark., to a grandson while a year ago, one made its way to Albania to friends serving in that far off land, managing to arrive there in remarkably good shape. The charming houses have also served to brighten the holidays for some who are ill, lonely or aged. On Saturday, Nov. 24, the family, now including four generations and having outgrown the Wride home for such a project, met at the Benjamin .church to construct this year's creations. Eight-tables were filled with the gingerbread and the trimmings while three electric mixers worked at keeping the icing coming. All but five members of the family were there to participate in putting together somewhere around 30 houses. ""• ^ A Such a happy feeling permeated through the building as once again a long-standing tradition brought the Wride family together to create beauty in the season of giving. Thanks to Marion and Pat and their family for being willing to share this special joyous project. Karlee Partridge and Tyson Barlow were married on Saturday, Nov. 17,2007, in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. The couple are making their home in Spanish Fork, while Karlee works in Speech Therapy at East Meadow school and Tyson continues his schooling at UVSC. Karlee is the daughter of Jeanie and Lynn Baadsgaard of Benjamin. A welcome to Benjamin goes to B.J. and Alesa Shelby. Alesa is the granddaughter of the late Ned Penrod and they have moved into his home. They were barely moved in when their first child, a baby boy, was bom to them on Nov. 20, 2007. We look forward to getting acquainted with this family and we hope they enjoy living here. Frank and Gail Ballard have received three new granddaughters into their family over the past while. Their daughter and sonin-law, Sarah and Ezra Glanzer, stationed in Panama City, Fla., adopted a little girl from Guatemala in mid-October. She has been named Eleanor, and she and her mother and siblings are staying with the Ballards while Ezra completes a tour of duty in Iraq. He will be returning home at the end of December to meet his new daughter. On Sept. 13, 2007, Jacob and Claudia Ballard of Provo had a baby girl born to them and her name is Ella. A month later, on Nov. 13, 2007, a baby girl was born to David and Michelle Ballard, also of Provo. Her name is Isabella. There is a lot of joy in the Ballard home.
