SUU's first Benefit Art Auction was held Thursday evening at Milt's Stage Stop and approximatdy 75 people were on hand to hid on 12 pieces of art and enjoy one of Rusty Aiken's fantastic meals. The auction was sponsored by the Friends of the Braithwaite Gallery and proceeds went to the gallery fund to help obtain shows and make acquisitions. Gallery director Valerie Kidrick commented after the auction that it was an u overwhelming successn having raised roughly $5,000. The 12 pieces were sold for prices ranging from $175 up to $1075 by auctioneer Joe Taylor. The bidding was heated on several pieces and Taylor made it especially entertaining with his, livestock style auctioneering. Klein, Martha Madeish, Carrie Pensis, Mark Talbert, Robert Warren, Ron Rencher, and Jim Jones. Some of the patrons who didn't take home a work of art had a chance to win one of the 5 ttips that were drawn for prior to the auction. The drawing included package ttips to St. George (including goU), Mesquite {a night at the Peppennill), Springdale (a night at Zion Lcxlge), Brianhead (ski passes and Lessons), and Puerto Penasco, Mexico (4days/3nights in a beach front condo).
