Show TiiE TiiUNDERBIRD • SOUTiiERN UTAH UNIVERSITY • T UESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1992 • PAGE 7 Five ex-presidents now work at SUU BY NAOMI BAHR Thunderbird Staff WriteT "It's wonderful to be back," says Stuart Jones. That statement sums up the feelings of at least four other faculty/staff members who were once SUUSA presidents. While having to get accustomed to a new job, these former presidents are familiar with the new environment, conquering the problem of treading on foreign ground. Neuman Duncan starts off the line-up of former presidents as the facility manager for residential living. Duncan served as president during the 1973-74 school year. New cross country and track coach Eric Houle served as president for two terms in 1979-81. The tables are turned as he coaches the team he ran on as a student "When you put in that much time on something, it's hard to totally forget it," Hou.l e said. "It's always been my dream to get off to a university somewhere, but I didn't think I'd have a chance to coach at SUU." The change that Houle has seen in SUU since his school days is tremendous, he says. "I remember proposing ideas for the new Student Center, but we never really imagined seeing those ideas take form." Stuart Jones is the newest faculty member o n the List, taking Vaughn MacDonald's place as assistant to the president for university advancement shortly aher Houle's return to SUU. Jones served as president in 1985-86. "SUU blood runs pretty thick through my family, with my father teaching political science here and my great grandfather a major figure in establishing the school. "Provide meaningful service while here, both to the school and the community. And create lasting friendships and relationships while you're here. This is you r time, make the best of it," Jones advises. Today, Monica Moe's office could have been the court she practiced layups in, as the Student Center now stands where the old Field House/P.E. Building did. Moe served her term as president in 1987-88. She now works as the assistant director of student activities, coming back for "a lot of reasons, but mainly because I had such a wonderful experience." Moe reminds students that, "This is the greatest time of your life, don't waste it in your apartment or with the TY. Get involved, whatever that involvement may be. It's not very far away that you have to worry about the realities of the world: mxes, babies, etc." Another alumni president now working at SU as admissions counselor at SUU is Julie Sruart. Stuan served in the school year 1990-91, the youngest of the presidents here on campus.
