"This is a eonferenc pecifically planned to help improve reading and language arts program , " Gayle Garrett, director of the UU Colleg of Education R ading Clinic and reading conference dir ctor, said. "Presentations during the conferenc should help faculty and staff members in elementary, mid<lle, and high chools by offering valuabl and enrich ing ideas and per pectivc ." Nancy Johnson will be one of two conference keynote pcakcr . Sb has been a national ducational con ultant for over 17 year and i pr sident of Creative Learning Con ultants, Beaver C reek, Ohio. Her topics will i nclude "Teaching the Gifted,""$ lf Concept: Posi tive Power," and " Getting Motivation from the Out idc toth e ln id." The econd confcrence k ynote addre will be given by Alien Say, author of "Gra ndfather's Journ y, 11 the 1994 Caldecott Award winning book . Say has written and illu trated evcral children's books. He was born in Yokohama, Japan, and he be an hi car er a an apprentice to cartooni t Naro Shinpei. Say will also be bonorcd at an Author's Award Luncheon July 7. Chamberlain, 50, has been elec t d by Gov. Michael O. Leavitt to j in Judge Joseph E. Jackson as the Fifth Di trict Court' new juvenile court judge. He erved as the Iron County attorney for eight years, and is a past pre ident of the Utah State Bar, the Statewide Association of Prosecutors and th e outhem Utah Bar As ociation. Additionally, he filled a term as prcsid nt of the SUU Alumni Association, as chairman of the SUU Board of Tru tees and, currently, as a member of the State Board of Regent .
