The young SUSC squad trailed in all the other rounds to come up with a third place finish. Grand Canyon opened a 29 shot lead in the first round on the way to a 47 stroke victory. The Antelopes finished with 1056 in the three rounds. Idaho State shot 103 and the were a distant third at 1111. Medalist (best individual total) at the Classic was Randy McGohan of Grand Canyon. He finished with a 204 (three-unde- r par) aggregate. Idaho States Bruce Robinett finished at 207 and Antelope Doug Wilkinson was third at 208. Leading SUSC was Brett Sampson who ended up with a 212 total and playing the last two rounds at par. Brett Wilkinson shot consistent golf with 72, 71, and 73 for a total 216. Coach Tom Kingsford told his players after the tournament that Grand Canyon is a team to be dealt with the coming District 7 tournament in May. Theyre fielding their best team ever and will probably be the favorites. The golfers travel to the Boise Invitational on April 11 and 12, and conclude the Idaho trip at the Idaho State Invitational in Pocatello on April 14 and 15. For the men, Steve Bryant took fifth in the shotput with a toss of 43-Boyd Wittwer, Leo Garand, John White,- and Gary Alger ran the 4X100 relay in 45.63 for a third place finish. Alger finished fifth in the 400 meters at 54.8. In the 5000 meters Tim Pilling placed second at 15:18. Wittwer, Garand, Brett Enser, and Alger captured a fourth in the Mile Relay with a time of 3:41.57. Coach Ben Davidson said that Enser had his best time ever in the 1500 meters but didnt score. Nick Bartlett jumped in the high jump but didnt place because of an earlier miss. Davidson said the whole team showed improvement that was not reflected in the meet scores. The are working for the RMAC conference meet and the NAIA Nationals both are during May. will be at Provo for the BYU Saturday the Invitational. 3 6-- 6 1 |
