THE UNIVERSITY JOURNAL · OUTHERN UTAH UNIVERSITY· TifUR DAY, APRIL 22, 1999 Poet-in-residence to read today UU's distinguished poet-in-residence Sam Green will pre ent a poetic reading today at :30 p .m. in the Braithwaite Liberal Arts Center room 202. Green will read selected poem from his most recent books Bread tn Mouth and Vertebrae. Bread in Mouth is a limited-edition chap book, a smaller collection of poems publi hed last year, while Vertebrae, published aboµt four years ago, i about someone who i trying to discover what love, belonging and community nd work mean and have to offer and individual. "Tt 's about trying to find a place in this world, " said Green . Green is currently teaching three upper-divi ion poetry etas es here. "I'm enjoying my stay at U, " he aid. "I find my students creatively and intellectually stimulating, and it's a nice place to work ." Green lived 16 year on a small, remote island off the WasMngton coast, called Waldron. There he and his wife operated a mall independent publi hing company and, of course wrote poetry. · Tonight's reading will be th final one lated for the year. OSU 'Sho\Ncase' set for tonight Five young musicians will present olo work with the Orche tra of outhern Utah in the "Showcase for Youth" concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in Orche tra Hall, located at 75 N. 300 W. Celli t ara M. Kelly, an U senior, w ill perform Cello Concerto No. 1 in A-Minor. Kelly is currently a member of the UU Orchestra and tring En emble, and is co-founder and cellist in the Zion Quartet. AJlison Bu h, a freshman from Pleasant Grove, will perform the Second Movement of Barber's Violtn Concert. Bush, who is studying with Phillip Baldwin, was cone rt-mistre of the orchestra at mcrican Fork High chool. Violini t Ana Gardner i a fre hman at who will present the 771ird ,Wovement of oncerto ~~--::-.:ar---~------~~~--..;._.,.....~--..... No. 3 by Saint-Saens. Originally from Kaysville, Gardner i currently a member of the UU O rchestra, tring En emble and the Zion Quartet. Performing the Firsl Movement from Barber's Vtoltn Concerto will be Daniel Boothe from l. George, and pianist Candy Crawford Wil on will be perfor01ing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto in B-Flat Minor. he c urrently studie with Evelyn Jones and has played the piano for 16 years. Wilson has earned a Gold Cup Trophy through the ation LFederationofMusic Club .
