The college was the students living quarters and the students living quarters were the college. They brought in their own tutors or Juniper Hall mentors and for a long time governed the colleges themselves. The emphasis, of course, was on learning and student social life centered on the college. Even until the late 1800s, colleges remained small. When Americas first college what we now know as Harvard was established in 1636, things werent a whole lot different. College revolved around the students living quarters, the emphasis was on learning, and it was still small Harvards graduating class numbered in the hundreds well into the 20th century. American colleges and universities grew to hugeness for economic reasons, not for academic ones. To this day, Americas finest education is found where the relationship between the students and professors is supportive and where the predominant feeling among students is Juniper Hall offers traditional residence hall living for 300 unmarried students. From a central lounge area stem three wings with three floors each. One wing is designated for female students, and two for the other gender. All rooms, except a small one on each wing, accommodate two students. Based on availability, other single rooms may be arranged for at an extra charge. In addition to the vending machines and convenient laundry room, there is a central fireplace lounge for socializing.
