The second major change is the inclusion this year of Weber State College on the schedule. The October 20 game on the Weber State field will mark the first time the two Utah schools have met in football since each moved up from junior college competition. In addition to the Weber State game, SUSC's schedule consists of a seasongame against opening Western Montana College in Dillon, Mont., and a full complement of games against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference colleges and universities. 'There's no question about how tough our schedule will be this fall," Don Conrad, SUSC's head football coach, says. "It looks like several RMAC teams will be 'up' this year, and Weber may be the strongest football team SUSC has ever faced in its history. We will have a large number of new players we graduated a bunch of starters. This may not be a good year for us to face Weber. "On the other hand, if our kids come together and jell, we could have an excellent season." The first home game will be September 15 when the 'Birds host Adams State in the first RMAC game will face for both schools. The Colorado School of Mines November 3 in their annual homecoming game; that game will start at 1 p.m. and will be the only home afternoon game of the season. ar Hoop camp is set Students are still being accepted for the first of two SUSC basketball camp sessions, according to Bob Schermerhom, Thunderbird basketball coach and camp director. 'We had a reasonably successful year," Ben Davidson, track coach, said. 'We are pleased with our three second places in the national NAIA meet in West Virginia. There are a whole bunch of teams who didn't score at all nationally, and there are more teams which weren't even represented." SUSC received eight points in the men's division on the strength of Adrian Sampson's second place finish in the long jump. The Thunderbird women picked up 13 points (and 15 place) with a second place finish in the marathon by Jolene Fisher and a second place (tie four way) in the high jump by Mechele Hebberd. 'We got solid etforts from all three of our people who placed," Davidson said. 'We are pleased that the ability of some of our players has been recognized," Bill Groves, newly named head coach and assistant coach last season, said.
