C hoo ing to live in a residence hall offers you both obvious and intangible benefits that arc not available to tudents living off-campus. Some of the distinct benefits you will have are: Community: As a member of the residence hall commu nity, you can work to make it one where every body feels su pported and where there is communa l trust and respect. In a supportive community, your energy is invested in accomplishing your goals and having fun. The friendships you develop will last a lifetime. Location: The lib rary, student union, recreational and athletic facilities, food service, computer centers and other academic buildings and facilities are within easy walking distance from the halls. Because of the proximity, you are more likely to use these resources. By living in a residence hall, you ·w ill also have greater access to group study sessions and academ ic assistance. The level of involvement leads to greater satisfaction and more productivity. Safety and Security: A great deal of effort is taken in the residence halls to provide you with a safe and secure environm ent. Opportunities: Few places offer as many opportunities like those you find in the residence halls. You will have the op port unity ro learn new s kills or deve lop hobbies, to attend cu ltural events, to partici pate in vo lun teer projects, and to hea r experts speak about different issues. You probably wou ld not be able to attend all the programs and activities, put try to go w hen you can. Yo u learn much that helps make your collcge..e1pcrience more successful , and you get ro know faculty and other residents better. Leadership: One of the mos t rewarding experiences you can have while in college is tu ta kc advantage of the many leade rship opportunities avai lable. The Resident Hall Association plans activit ies, offers services, and develops policies. Becoming involved in this organization is an excellent way to deve lop leaders hip skills and to have a voice in your living environm ent. For upperclassmen, the Resident Adviser position is a challenging opportu nit y to develop a commu nit y and try to help students in a variety of ways.
