Show THE THUNDERBIRD TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 1988 PACE 21 INSTITUTE V) n registration "GETTING TO KNOW YOU" J' The Randall L. tones Theatre will add a new dimension to S USC's performing arts Theatre nears completion BY RACHEL TALBOT anxiously await the completion of SUSC's newest addition, the Randall L. Jones Performing Arts Theatre. The theatre plans to open winter quarter with the Oedipus trilogy and will also be used for the 1989 Shakespearean season which opens June 23 and runs through September 2. During the Shakespearean Festival, the Randall Theatre will feature playwrights Tennessee Williams, Moliere and Doug Christensen. Williams' play, The Class Menagerie , will be the opening production This drama was a success on Broadway and received the Drama Critics Circle Award. The second feature, The Imaginary Invalid, is written by Moliere. Like William Shakespeare, Moliere was both a playwright and an actor, after his performance in The Imaginary Invalid Moliere died. A newly commissioned play by Doug Christensen, Nothing Like The Sun, will be performed as a matinee by Patrick Page. This drama will complement the Shakespearean Festival flavor because it is a story about Ben Jonson and William Shakespeare. Each performance will be preceded by live music performed in the theatre foyer. With a capacity seating for 700, the Randall Theatre will be enjoyed by many of the 80,000 patrons expected for the 1989 season. The construction of the theatre is made possible by federal and state funding as well as a major gift by the Randall L. Jones family. Ticket information will be available beginning November 1, 1988, when the festival box office opens.
