Show SUSC should reward all worthy students SUSC students deserve many awards, not just those being awarded at the Academic Awards Convocation and the Thunderbird Awards Night. While these students are deserving, many others also deserve some recognition. Brent Scott, Larry Schmidt and the rest of the Real People Party should be proud of running in the ASSUSC elections. While the Star Party won by a .andslide, these people stood up and answered the call for an opposing viewpoint. Chris Angelo and John Rex also deserve credit for running in the ASSUSC elections, but they took it one step farther by not running with support from a party. The Star Party deserves much recognition also. They represented the experience the student body wanted and won a sweep. Everyone on the partys ticket won the seat he or she was running for. Jolene Fisher has brought recognition to the school by qualifying in the 5,000 and the 10,000 meter runs, throwing her into NAIA nationals. Fisher also took first place in the womens division of the St. George marathon this fall after her national championship last year in the marathon. SUSCs womens softball team won its conference, district and tournaments and went on to tie lor ninth in nationals. Besides doing exceptionally well at almost all ol the tournaments it attended, SUSCs forensics team placed first in their first year at an invitational tournament held by the national forensic fraternity. Chuck Mullenkopf and Betty Kingsford should be recognized for stepping in to finish out the job left behind when Steve McKibhen resigned as director of resident living. Everyone involved in getting the new Student Center under construction deserves applause from the student body. Students will soon be able to use a facility that will he able to meet their growing size and needs. SUSC sociology and psychology students and SUSC sociologist Richard Ropers have helped the state by researching the plight of Utahs homeless and trying to help the state find an answer to this problem. All SUSC students deserve some kind of recognition for having to use the schools terribly deficient library. It needs more volumes and a larger staff to bring it up to the minimum standard. While the students, faculty and staff who have been nominated for awards at the many banquets are all worthy of being nominated, The Thunderbird also believes that the nominees arent the only people here. full-part- award-winnin- y g 0e 111!
