Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, February 28, 1985 - Page Six Judd and Smith Chosen For Garkane Election Kanab men have been by the local nominating committee for election to the Garkane Power Association Board of Directors at the annual meetings on March 27 and 28 in Kanab and Orderville. Kenneth W. Smith, born December, 1931, in Giles, Texas, moved to San Bernardino, Calif., in 1940. He attended San Bernardino High School, entered the U.S. Navy in August of 1950, and served two years in the Korean War. He became a General Engineering Contractor in 1956, and worked in this capacity through 1983, at which time he retired and moved to Kanab, Utah. Smith then became a partner in Goodfellow & Smith Equipment Sales. During the same time period he developed an Air Craft Sales Co. in Lancaster, California and jointly operated a 200 cow ranch in northern California with his father for twenty years. He and his wile, Lou Ann have six children and four grandchildren. He is currently an active L.D.S. High Priest in Kanab Second Ward and is Two selected ' 1 'i$ JUDGE DON TIBBS installed local Boy Scout District Officers last Thursday evening as part of the annual Scouting Recognition Dinner. The hall at the south chapel of the LDS Church was comfortably filled with 125 Scouts, Scouters, wives and other Scouting Awards and recognition were given to Century Club supporters. The is being 8th grade tournament played in Kanab, the Lady Buffs are ,at the State Tournament in Beaver (They won their first game with East Carbon.) The Jr. Varsity and Varsity are ncre at nome playing Parowan. There has also been some church basketball games going on. The dance revue Wednesday sponsored by Rhea McCormicks dance classes was well attended and an outstanding program. Thanks, Rhea, tor taking the time to teach these young people. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Crofts went to Mesa, Ariz.; for the wedding of a granddaughter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Crofts. At the Max Heaton home over the weekend were two of Margaret's sisters and husband enroutc home trom California to northern Utah. Visiting at the Richard Esplins were three of their grandchildren from Kanab, the children of the Michael Robinsons. M iny friends and relatives were here Sunday to hear Wayne Jones report his mission. Mrs. Mike (Lucinda) Vowels and two children, Amy and Taylor from Orem, are visiting at the Eugene ',y Men In Service Juniors of Fredonia High are very excited about the upcoming Junior Prom. The theme is Youre the Inspiration" by Chicago and will be held March 23, 1985 in the Fredonia High School Gym. Our big night will begin at 8.30 and run until midnight. We are hoping that everyone will come and support our dance, with or without a date! The band is Nightwatch" and the decorations are terrific. Hope to you see vou all there! "Guys and Dolls" is set in the late 1940s and we are in need of an pay telephone. (We need a booth too, if anyone has one). We also need several pair of black shoes in various sizes and a fur stole. Small hats with little veils would also help so that we wont have to make them. William first joined the Army upon his graduation from Kanab High School in 1978. In July of 1982, he was released and in September began serving a Swiss Mission. In May 1984, he was released, having served an honorable mission. They lived most of their lives in Los Angeles where he worked for thirty years for Los Angeles City and was responsible for the maintenance of over 200 parks and 13 golf courses, with a staff of over 15,000 employees and a $3 million budget. He retired in 1979 at age 50 and he believes in a business where the people have a voice in management.
