Hans Chamberlain, lifelong resident of the County and Or derville was selected for the a ward Good Neighbor". Cail Heaton, Alton; Malcolm Robinson, Glendale; Vilate S. Mt. Carmel and Mrs. Anna Deal Black, Kanab were others named to compete for the title Mrs. Sam Owens of Kanab won the senior hobbie title. Mrs. Janice Esplin, Order-vil- e won the senior fine arts title and Mickey Shields of Kanab won the junior fine arts crown. Lyle Chamberlain ol Clen-dal- e won the senior home arts crown. This is the first time the home arts has gone to a man, and the rug he made is said to be outstanding. Janae Judd, Fredonia was the junior home arts winner. Pearle Bolander of Order-vill- e won the senior floriculture award with Ronnie Bolander, Orderville, winning the junior division. Ester Heaton of Alton won the senior fruits and crops crown witth Doug Bauer of Glendale winning the junior division. Mrs. Terrance (Mona) Heaton of Orderville was the winner of the over 65 title, open to all in the home .and fine arts division. Dough Heaton of Alton won the junior livestock trophy. Denny Frost and Mack Frost, father and son team, won the . junior and senior trophies in the horse show. 1 the pet show the trophy went to Kelly Brinkerhoff of Clendale. Jerry Spencer, Glendale and Earl Gene Ramsay of ML Carmel won gifts in the unusal division. In the domes- tic divisions, Shane Roundy, Alton, won the trophy ad Sher-m- a Cox, Clendale and Robert Baird, Orderville the gifts. Ordervile Ward Primary won in the float division in the parade; Valley High School FFA won second and the Queens float was third. Pres Shumway has heart attack Cliarles Preston Shumway, age 57, died in the Kane County hospital shortly after suffering a heart attack Tuesday September 7. Bom October 22, 1907 m h Kanab, he was the son of and Elizabeth Robinson Shumway. He married Loma Swapp, April 13, 1929 in Kanab. KANAB WEATHER REPORT Economic Benefits Information supplied by the three firms which have been proposed the Kaiparowits Plateau develoment indicate that the economic benefits are as a. Court-appointe- . ul tri-ut- y Big Three Southern California Edison, San Diego Cas and Electric Co., and the Arizona Public Service Company have propod sed a 5,000,000 kilowatt generating plant and a massive coal mine near the Kaiparowits Pleatue region in Kane County. The plant would be between Wahweep Creek and Warm Creek, approximately 15 niles north of Glen Caoyoif Dam. The deposits, estimated at 1.5 fa) billion tons, are located about 15 miles from the proposed plant site. The electrical energy will be transmitted to population center in Arizona and Southern California by revolutionary extra high voltage transmission lines. Sen. Moss and Rep. King said the power will be made available to other private utilities, including Utah Power ad Light Compay. Sen. Moss said of the proposed project: Utah is now embarking on an enterprise that will touch die life of every resident of our State. Our natural resouces are our most valuable asset for the future of Utah. Rep. King said: The effects of this develoment will be most strongly felt in Southern Utah, but benefits will aecure to every reseident of the State.
