Voltaire 1 may not agree v --JV C'? - Slricl Law Enforce?.snl Is llesdsd This week in Kanab law enforcement officers made a good in a move move, we believe, when they made several arrests here. have come up to clean up several problems that We believe that Kanab and Kane County citizens should he encouraged by the fact that we have law enforcement officers who are on the job and are trying to do a good job. Quite a number of arrests were made Monday and Tuesday because of a growing number of idle men who are ui town with nothof these men ing to do, and in most of these cases the majority menace. have been drinking heavy and are a public Several of the arrested men were local, or have been around this vicinity for quite sometime. Others have drifted in unable to find work are what can be termed as vagrants. This is an unfortunate situation and will be seen more and more here due to tle Glen Canyon Dam project. This huge project while a boon to this entire area will also present problems. Many are startto be taken ing to come in before work is available. They have care of one way or another. It is unfortunate that a person has to be classed as a vagrant, and many times is not preventable who folby individuals, however, in other cases there are men low projects such as these for the easy pickings or what ever they can get and do not care to work. It is these men where good law enforcement comes in. In two recent issues of the S.U.N. we have stressed the lack of a good County Attorney in Kane County. These problems this week make that point clear. We must have an experienced, licensed and qualified man in that position immediately. With out a qualified and licensed Attorney here our law enforcement offcers cannot carry out their jobs efficiently and be sure that they are right in making arrests and in having the proper papers processed and executed for them. Many times an officer must have qualified advice on making arrests and upholding, the law. In many cases a officer knows his duties and proceedings, in others he must seek the advice of a qualified and licensed attorney, we think that the time is here if not passed that we have this qualified official on duty in Kane County. During past weeks we have been dissapointed that we have not heard in some way from our District Attorney. Ken Chamknows berlain. Stationed some 140 miles away, he our problems here and in several instances during the past weeks we feel that he should have made some kind of an inquiry in to the questions that we have brought up on County matters. Some two or three weeks ago he made a trip here and met with several individuals on a Sunday, but has not made himself available during the week days. We think he owes this County a service in the capacity that he is in. This County where he was horn and raised gave him a solid endorsement in the last election for the office that he now holds. If we have, or had, been wrong on our statements the past few weeks we feel that we should have heard from Mr. Chamberlain. By the same token we feel that if we are right we should expect the same consideration. ss JMr. Alton news events By ALLIEN Note of Thanks We, wish to take this means to express our thanks and gratitude to the many people who assisted and were so kind and thoughtful during the recent loss of our son, father and brother, Dr. Samuel II.
