Sen. Senator Bennett? Whats he done??? . . . especially for us here??? These are legitimate questions that we are beginning to hear around town. That is what we are going to tell you Kane County plays an important part in the efforts of Senator Bennett. For instance: 1. The Glen Canyon and Lake Powell are part of the Upper Colorado River Storage Act. Sen. Bennett was a sponsor of the bill and has been a prime mover for its construction ever since. In his 18 years in the Senate, Sen. Bennett has successfully worked for more Utah water appropriations than any other Utah member of Congress in history. More recently he has been a successful leader of the fight against Interior Secretary Stewart Udalls efforts to drain be-ca- ue Lake Powell. 2. Sen. Bennett has sponsored and pushed legislation to transfer Bureau of and Manage nent and Forest Service land to the State of Utah. That is the reason we now have the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. He did his part; now if only the Ramp-toAdministration would use the funds that the 37th Legislature with Dixie Leavitts prodding set aside for the development of that park. n Bennett has been a ssw 6. Barco Industries which, is considering moving into Kane County would reap the benefits of a tax break which would come from a bill Sen. Bennett is sponsoring in Congress. The ty have heard of the Golden Circle Parkway proposal. This is a Bennett highway plan specifically designed for So. Utah to link together the many national parks, monuments, recreation areas and the like in the Four Corners section of the U. S. generally and Kane County particularly. After Bennett brought forwrad his plan the Democrats later decided to add Arizona, Bennett bill would provide tax incentives (a lower tax rate) to industries which. build facilities and hire employees in rural counties such as Kane County. 7. Cattlemen and sheepmen of Kane County have also benefit-fro- Senator Bennetts efforts Colorado, and New Mexico. Bennett says that he will go along with this as long as So. Utah benefits." When the Golden Circle finally goes through Congress, tourism in Southex n Utah will flourish and prosper greatly. 5. Education in the Finance Committee which handles import legislation. The Senator is a firm believer in a free agriculture producing for a free economy. is one of Sen. Bennetts pet projects. In 1967 il-- s Kane County Schools received they probably would not have received without Senator $15,000 Bennetts efforts. The I suppose the list could run on and on. Agriculture, airport improvement, air service, crime fighter, education, gold and ver, mining, sportsmen, water for Utah, fgihter of gun controls . . . and there is more.. As Senator Everett M. Dirk-sesaid of Senator Bennett: "There isnt a more vigorous man in the United State Senqte than Wallace Bennett. He is known as a man who gets things done dont for his county and done for his state.
