All members were present except Charlie Glaspie. Guests present were Lorin Broadbent, Marvin and Karen Hatch and Marshal Mark Johnson. The council decided after discussion that the town would contract with the State of Arizona to handle commodities for the senior citizens and low income families. Dean Heaton reported that the eharges brought against the town by Steve Hartney, after his job option was not picked up by the town, has been denied by the State Attorney General. Steve has 90 days in which to appeal the decision. It was reported that the two young men who opened water hydrants had pled gudty to the harges and will pay the town $860 at $430 each. They were also placed on one year probation. Mayor Dixie Judd expressed thanks to Jeanme Hunt for the fine job done on the Miss Fredonia Pageant. Chosen as Miss Fredonia was Ann Brooksby with first runner up, Carol Johnson, and Michelle Griffiths as second runner-up- . Kim Ford was elected Miss Congeniality. Beautification Awards for the month of June went to the following: Lorin and Faye Broad bent, Marvin and Karen Hatch, Lawaun and Melva Judd, Dick and Nathaha Lewis, Harold Mace and t lden and Dixie Judd. Information is being gathered for apply ing for CDBG grant money for a medical center and a new firehouse. The senior center is checking into companies for supplies and equipment for the new center. It was announced that the Fredonia Boy Scouts would be burning flags tomorrow night, the 19th, and would dispose of any the town might have that were worn and need to be replaced. With the Savala team dropping out of the softball league, mens league games will be placed in their slot The council felt that profits from the league should be turned over to the town for expenses incurred by the league. Schedules for games will have to be worked out for the use of the field next year. Marvin Hatch asked if something tnuld be done about young drivers that hot rod around the corner by his house. He was asked to obtain license numbers and then report them to the Marshals office. Mayor Judd suggested that the police check out the park restrooms. The park hours for closure are 10 p.m. or immediately following night ball games. The Mayor asks that all town residents become involved in helping to curb vandalism at the park and around town. When some act of vandalism is seen, the person should call the police. If problems continue, it could lead to the closing of the park to all use after 7 p.m each evening. A senseless act of throwing grass and dirt in the swimming pool caused expensive repair and the pool was closed for several days. The vandalism must be stopped. Don Mackelprang reported that Ira Jackson was checking the dump twice a day to try to stop the burning of trash in the trench. The council decided to go ahead and call for a bond election for the construction of a new town hall complex. The fee for clubs, groups, etc., is $5.00 per booth. 643-725- 4 " COMBINING EFFORTS for the Fourth of July Parades, Kanab Parade Chairman Emma Houston, Fredonia Centennial Parade Chairman Shawna Johnston and Preston Brooksby, Centennial Committee Chairman, met at the UtahArizona , are modeled by Shannan OFFICIAL FREDONIA caps and and Elaine Shalene Johnson McCormick, Brooksby, Fredonia High School cheerleaders. Anyone wishing to purchase a cap or shirt may contact any one of the young ladies. Caps are $5, the shirts $6 for any size, from the smallest child to the largest adult. Profits realized will help the cheerleaders with camp and uniform costs. border. Eight covered wagons and many horseback riders will lead off the Kanab parade and continue down this section of Highway 89A to start the parade in Fredonia as they celebrate their 100th year. Horses, Wagons Trek From Kanab On Fourth Emma Houston and Shawna Johnston, Kanab and Fredonia July Fourth Parade chairmen are working together to have the Fredonia Centennial parade start in Kanab. Since Fredonia was settled by settlers from Kanab, the covered wagons and horses of the Fredonia Parade will form the lead of Kanabs parade and will continue down the highway clear to Fredonia. As many as 100 riders on horseback are anticipated to join the eight wagons for the trek. Descendants of the first Fredonia pioneer families, as well as dignitaries of the two communities, will be riding in covered wagons. An invitation is given by the Centennial Committee to all horses and riders, big or small, in the area, to come join in to escort the settlers. As many horses as possible are wanted for the ride. Theres no entry fee. No prizes. No restrictions beyond common sense. Just a fun ride. You can identify yourselves in any way you choose. Form up at the west end of Beautification Awards Made The Fredonia Beautification Committee, represented by Marvin Hatch presented the June Home Beautification Awards during the June 18th Fredonia Town Council meeting. Each month six homes are chosen for improvement andor upkeep of their yards. This month those awarded certifi cates were: Loren and Faye Broadbent, Dick and Taylor Lewis, Harold Mace, Veldon and Dixie Judd, Lawaun and Melva Hatch, and Marvin and Karen Hatch. Those who were not present at the meeting will receive their certificates by mail. The Fredonia Beautification Committee would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all those Fredonia residents whose time and effort are spent working on their homes and yards, helping to keep Fredonia beautiful. Kanabs Center Street at Utah time. 9 a.m., Kanabs parade participants will be lining up for judging at 8 a.m. on Third West, north up the street from Center. Trophies will be awarded in nine categories, entry forms are required for Kanabs parade participation. The Fourth of July parade route will go east on Center, around the corner at First East, turn around at Reese's Texaco and return to the starting point on Center, two full passes downtown.
