It Is becoming increasingly apparent that Fedral spending is based on how much Is in the till instead of how much is actually needed. The recommended 1958 budget message of the President called for $71.8 billions although the original budget estimate for the year was $4 billion less. The increase was made because revenue is higher than expected. This $4 billon could have been a cut that used to cut taxes would have saved each Utahan about $17 and the entire state some $15 millon. As it stands now. the budget will cost each man. woman, and child in Utah, approximately $327. 1958 budget The President is practically $9 - billon above that for fiscal 1955. Of this huge increase, only $2.7 is millitary spending. The president's proposed domestic spending for 1958 is some $6 billion greater than in Arrival in Utah of 108 redleg partridges was announced today by the department of fish and Wul Jay Rttd Carolyn Jay Reed West, of Spanish Fork, and Carolyn Marston, of Kaysville, both 20 and nine-yea- r were chosen by the Extension 8ervlce of the Utah State Agricultural College for this outstanding honor. The department said these bird are now being held at the Price Game Farm and will be released in Washington County in near future as a supplemental plant to the 131 birds of this species planted in the same area last year. The birds released in 1956 were the first redleg partridge ever planted in Utah. Both shipments have come direct to the state by air freight from Spain where they had been trapped in the wild The actual trapping and ship-inof the birds has been under the direction of Dr. Gardiner Bump of the U.S. Fish and wildlife Ssrviee as the result of an agreement with this Federal Service and department to obtain this and other game bird species for the state. The experiment to establish the redleg partridge in Utah is being conducted in an effort to add another upland- - game bird to the states wildlife resources. Should the pilot plantings of these birds prove successful a program for further introductions will be carried out. The department noted that the redlegs are smaller than the chukar partridge but are somewhat larger than California quail common to the state. Their habitat in Utah would include the low elevation valleys where the winters are less severe than in many sections. g , Salt City, Utah Reid noted Utah Pianist, is guest soloist with the Utah Symphony on the Kennecott Symphony Hour, Monday, February 11 at 8:30 p.m. on KSL Radio.
