Test taken last spring. These students t" jsw l r" st --U trayed by Kent Fairbanks. Mrs. Bramson, played by Linda JoStrick land, was play acting that was out of this world. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation now awards scholar-ships on a quota system so it is possible that the Salt Lake City students may have achieved higher scores than some semi-finalis- ts in other areas. The "Letters of Commendation" are special citations that provide tangible re-cognition of superior ability. The Highland students who re-ceived the awards were: John Bowers', Juneil Fetzer, Larry ' Gebhardt, Val Higginbotham. Richard Rands, Susan Richards, Julia Roth, Brent Strong, Ronald Terry, and Marvin Van Dam. Highland's A'Cappella Choir, directed by Paul G. Christiansen made their formal debut Sunday evening at services at the First. Baptist Church, Salt Lake. The 150 member choir sang many selections which included a Bach cantata and Mozart alleluia. Choir officers Dave Young, Victor Wylie did a fabulous job on the part of Dan. I have never seen such a performance from a high school student.Others in the cast, Polly Stewart, Nelson Max-fiel- d, Susan Reese, Michael Seidel, and Gayle Daleboute, made this year's school play a play, that won't be easily forgotten. The play was written by Emlyn Williams, and was directed by J. A. Chris-tiansen. The orchestra conducted by Dow Young played selections from the "West Side Story". The story consisted of three acts and five scenes. Student director was Marilyn McKay. Something new has been added to East High School this year. It is our new "Syndicate ofSound" club. In this club students are learning how to appreciate jazz. Although they are learning quite a bit about jazz, they have classical music which they are also learning about. Some of the new afficers are Marianne Songtag, Bruce Irvine, and Lloyd Arnessen. Mr. Young is sponsor of this new club and it certainly sounds worthwhile.
