Wives, children and grandchild-ren were included in the Christ-mas party of the Ute Rangers-Howar- d Egan Chapter of thejSons FASHIONS by Vidawright Christmas time is the time to give a gift of luxury, and for ele-gant luxury, nothing is better than jewelry. Not long ago, lovely jew-els were available only to the wealthy. With synthetic materials semi - precious stones, and the designs and craftsmanship of to-day, we have jewelry that only the expert can distinguish from the real . . . namely, costume jewelry. Since 'the beginning -- of -- history, peoples of all nations have adorn-ed themselves with ornaments of "gold, silver and precious stones. Today, we are no different in our liking for adornment, but we have developed a sense of good taste in wearing them. During early periods of history, no restraint was used in the dis-play of jewelry by the aristocracy. (No lesser person was permitted to wear jewels.) It was the fashion to wear rings on the upper joints of the fingers as well as the lower, thus enabling the wealthy to make a greater display of his jewels. Today, although whole matching sets of jewelry may be bought.! necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and brooches and though it is good to have one's jewelry match, it is nevertheless, very poor taste' to wear every piece at one time. Only on very, formal oc-casions should one wear a neck-lace and earrings together. A bet-- ; ter effect is achieved with only bracelet and earrings, or a brooch and earrings alone. A most stun-ning result is effected with an ele-gant dress accented by a single handsome pin or brooch, cleverly placed. For Christmas giving, consider jewelry, and you cannot choose wrong. At various ladies' specialty shops and jewelry stores in Sugar House, the latest fashions in jew-els are to be seen. Particularly new and attractive are the "cat collars," a version of the "dog collars" a choker band worn around the neck. A necklace of this sort is sufficient in itself, it is so ornate. Very attractive too, are the "Borelis" jewels; costume pieces with stones of varying hues in subtle pastels. For the elegant gift to give or to prize for your self, choose jewelry. j Sugar House shops have yet com-- j plete stocks from the latest ini costume to the more expensive 'genuine stones in gold settings. All to your taste, whichever the ! giver thinks Milady would prefer. Nothing delights the heart of a woman like lovely lingeree can, and for the perfect gift, stop right here in this department. The care and thought and expert craftsman-ship that goes into the making of ladies under-wea- r today, produces garments that are unexcelled any-where, and anytime in history. How fortunate we are here in America to be able to buy such lovely under garments as compar-ed to those sold in Russia. For example, as one recent visitor there said, ,TAI1 bras and slips, etc. sold there in Russia are hea-vy and coarse, and are all the same orange color." Here, in con-trast, we have every hue of soft delicate feathery material. In ladies' night gowns you can select anything from warm soft flannels tailored smartly in cute pajamas or feminine mature gowns to sheer billowy decollete gowns in nylon. A very new fash- - jion in these is the smart waltz-- . length night - gown. They are so beautifully designed and trimmed jthey can be worn as an evening j gown; in other words, and it is be--1 ling done in the east, is is possible to put on one's night gown and go out to a party then come home1 and comfortably go to bed in it. You simply cannot fail to find the gift you seek for every woman i on your list in the lingeree de-Sug- ar Huse. Nylo slips, gowns, j robes, a pair of warm flannel pa-jamas, and he new "Tommies" may be bought now according to 'a woman's height; all these ele-;ga- nt items may be found in Sugar House and will delight every .wo-man who receives them. "Sick Bay' Bulletin Neuman Petty missed the Ro-tary and Chamber of Com-merce Christmas parties this year. Decided he'd ' rather spend- - a few days in the hospital. Understand he's back home now after the op-eration. . : Sick Bay reported last week that Jack Elledge was going .to the hospital. As Mark Twain indicat-ed, the account was grossly. . ex-aggerated. "Never felt better," he says. Felt so good, in fact, that he flew to Memphis over the week-end. Well, yes, he DID take a plane didn't feel quite well en-ough to try the trip without one. Suave dapper Jack Harvey, In-dependent advertising manager, was thrown for a loss by the flu bug. He's back in the office now after two weeks illness.. ' |
