Show ( ' v "Teen-Talkers' MOUNT JORDAN MOUNT AIN-EER By Lynne Brady What A Day! When seventh, eighth, and ninth graders were asked by a reporter how they liked the initiation several sev-eral such as Robert Larson and Kaye Wright replied, it was all right. Other seventh gTaders expressed their opinions as: Bruce Nelson "Real COOL!" Sheryl Swinnery "It was a disappointment. dis-appointment. It wasn't anything like I expected." (of course she's kidding) Rolayne Welch "I liked it. It was fun. But I wouldn't go through it again." Jean Olabarri "It was fun but OHHHHHHH!" Joe Williams "I liked it very much." Eight Graders David Boulter "It wasn't rough enough." Lorna Curtis "I think they had it easy." Gary Allen "They had a tougher tough-er time than we did when we were in the seventh grade." Roberta Akers "I thought it was a lot more fun just watching and not participating." Frank Munford "It was fun to watch them and it looked like the seventh were having as much fun as the ninth." Ninth Graders Maurice Crane "I thought that everybody took the initiation swell." Merrell Tune "They ought to have it more often." Paul Anderson "It was great!" Marlenc Wilkinson "It smelled. (with garlic)" Sheri Euffin "I thought it was real smooth." Mount Jordan Mountaineer Kathleen Hinckley, Reporter A fund raising contest was held between the boys and girls with the girls winning by just a small sum. As a treat, a "Be Kind to Girls Day" or "Courtesy Day" was held last Monday. It was on this day that the boys had to bow to, carry books for, and open doors upon the request of a girl. The home room that collected the most money, Mr. Wainwright's forensics class, was given a party for their efforts. Money was raised in several different ways. Some classes held auctions, some passed a hat, and still others were just left to contribute con-tribute as they felt. The drive was under the direction direc-tion of the Olympus Junior Red Cross, which is this year headed by Dorothy Walton, Bill Forrest, and Bonnie Bettylion. We're proud of these people and feel that Olympus made a fine showing. Report Cards! That dreaded day has finally come! That day when students linger at school 'til the very last tick of the clock, dreading to go home. What day is this? You guessed it, "Report Card Day." Of course there are always the fortunate for-tunate few who can't wait to get home to show off their well-earned A's. But I must say that the majority ma-jority suddenly begin to wish they had worked a little harder, handed in that last assignment, or studied a little more for that final exam. However, this is all a part of school and must go on, whether it be good or bad. Parents consultations will be held in connection with report cards and grades on Monday, November 19th. Dottl Duncan, Reporter The sounds you hear around Highland High campus are mostly the buzzing of activity rather than machinery working to complete our school. Everything is really rolling. roll-ing. Everyone is busy signing up for the various clubs. The ice-skating club met for a party Thursday at Hygeia. A fun time was had by all. Tryouts will be held this coming com-ing week for the drama club. Ski club, bowling club, social dance, debate, and swimming club are all under way along with others. Each club is sponsored by a member mem-ber of the faculty. Cheerleaders can be found in the foyer after school practicing and planning for the East-Highland game this coming week. We will also hold a pep assembly assem-bly for this game to make sure no one is present without plenty of enthusiasm and school spirit. Another eagerly anticipated assembly is the one in which we will meet our new officers. Skits will also be presented by some teachers. The sophomore class girls had the privilege of being the first to attend an assembly at Highland High. This was a fashion show. The clothes were all taken from Simplicity patterns and were modeled by the girls in the clothing cloth-ing classes. This fashion show was under the direction of Miss Sperger and Miss Walz. Our sophomore dance was a huge success. Everyone seemed to be enjoying himself, mingling and dancing to the fine music of Bill Link's Combo. |
