Show THE SIGNPOST Page 3 cah((aU ctf the Weak A back-to-nature movement was noted Tuesday noon in the form of the Coffee Kup (grand opening). The main thing gained by said movement was the publicity. Personally, I'd hate to eat any of the food. Jean Richards as honorary member of Phoenix should be the tie that binds Phoenix to Excelsior, if anything could. A recent geology field trip brought out the 'abysmal brute' in Pat Williams. Ruth Greenwell might have another name for it, though. La Dianaeda has adopted for its motto "We aim to please, service with a smile." Someday someone might wish they had one of those dates. One would never think to look at Val S. that he is a modern Casanova. First Isabelle, then Hinkley, and now Nadine. Oh, these fickle men! Plash! Hell Week marches on! Pledges by now have had about all they can stand, but are too sore to sit down! It has been suggested that Sybil write a book on "Why I Like Jail". She had better leave a couple of chapters out, though. So Margaret C. and Jack Cam-bell have, been making hey-de-hey while the moon shines. What's an usher got that a football player hasn't? If your locker is inclined to bend in places, it is probably because Karlene and Howard have been unconsciously leaning on it while they build their air castles. Reader A fari-JeAt Beauty queens at Stanford college must weigh over 150 pounds. Noah didn't wait for his ship to come in; he built one. That itching sensation just below the collar button that some people mistake for the pangs of ambition is merely inflammation of the wish-bone. The pledges were responsible for the collecting and the selling of the rummage. Erraa Bingham, Helen Van Dyke and Thelma Eskelson wrere in charge of all arrangements. The club also announces that they have some new stationery. Wonder how many sheets will go for love letters. Otyokwa-Excelsior Party The pledges of Excelsior and Otyokwa gave a party for their members last Friday night in the ballroom. A scavenger hunt preceded a delightful luncheon and dance. Those in charge of the party were: John Paul Jones, Bob Bagley, Dean Williams, Fred Hannah, Gordon Barney, Bernice Grandy, Norma Pan tone, Margaret Cross, Farrell Ensign, Phyllis Car-don, and Velma Hunter. Whip Club Bids Last Tuesday a group of starry-eyed maidens wandered dreamily about the halls holding little blue radiograms. These little blue radiograms were bids to join the Whip club, and the starry-eyed madiens were: Jane Nickson, Bet-te Herrington, Gladys Kalney, Elaine Jones, Verna Mae Wiggins, Mary Heinen, Thelma Eskelson, Dot Dixon, Karlene Jackson, Ven-dla Kennedy, Elsie Roush, Reva Knowles, Marie Showells, and Ruth Neville. Excel sior Excelsior's frivolous initiation will be held this Saturday night, after which those suppressed pledges will heave exultant sighs of relief. They've certainly been having one trying hell week! The boys have been dressed as angels, little Lord Fauntleroys, and general freaks. You should have seen the Paris creation exhibited by Nick Sweeney! a pair of cords cut knee length and a large Maim-bocher bow of blue something or other. And Dean Williams' exquisite blue corduroy shorts with two large mother of pearl buttons on each leg. Bart Walthius had one of Alix's latest draped satin blouses. All too, too divine! Wreaths Society Club Letters To Santa Claus Red lights, wreaths, balls, and noses and the festive Christmas season is being ushered in with a rush. But guess what Santa Claus is doing! That's right, reading all the letters that the little Weber College boys and girls are sending him. "What's this? A letter from La Dianaeda, eh? Let's see." They had devised games ranging from bouncing the basketball into a small can to pinning the tail onto the right place on the donkey. Mr. Losee excelled in that art, performing perfectly twice. The prizes, two dolls, went to Mrs. Merlon Stevenson and Mr. Nilsson. Mrs. Tanner, entertainment chairman, afterwards served lunch. Scholarship Committee Prepares Student Record For the first time the Scholarship Committee is preparing record cards containing a record of student's scholarship and activities. This will determine the eligibility of students to participate in various activities and also for membership in the Orien and "W" clubs. The cards are to be given to the sponsors at the end of the quarter. Students are urged to watch the bulletin boards for announcements of scholarships being offered by various universities. The only scholarship received up to the present time is a regional scholarship for J450.00 covering tuition for the year 19 3 8-9. This is offered by the Goucher College of Baltimore, Maryland. Several other universities will probably also offer scholarships. The faculty members of the Scholarship Committee are: Miss Read, Dr. Miner, Mr. Osmond, and Miss Ashton. Student representatives are Josephine Stone, Helen Abbott, Paul Grogger, and James Andrews. Dr. Dixon, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Hurst were the chief instigators of the new department. The Bureau will save time and money for the faculty by providing the material directly needed in the instructional and administrative functions of the school. It will also supply service needed by the student body and other organizations of the college, and it offers training in office machines for business students.
