Whether they went up to the mountains hunting or taking that last camping trip of the season, going on a shopping spree, a special trip or having yard sales, people were on the move. Don and Ila Edwards along with their daughter Melanie, husband Cory Hammond and their children Erin and Matthew of Salt Lake City, spent the weekend of Oct. 15 in St. George. They attended performances at the Tuacahn Amphitheater, of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Radene Pickett, her daughter Leisa Hicken of Cedar City, and daughter-in-law Angie Pickett, attended the Beach Boy Concert at the Centrum Auditorium in Cedar City Friday night Oct. 14. Radene said, “Young and old enjoyed the happy, upbeat entertainment.” She felt like a kid again. Hal and Radene Pickett spent Oct. 15, in St. George where grandson Austin Pickett, son of Jeremy and Angie participated in the “State Punt, Kick, and Pass Tournament” and won the competition. Austin is now eligible to compete in the Inter-mountain Region Tournament. Good luck Austin. A large crowd of family and friends came to welcome him home. They parked the car at the Midvale depot and rode the TRAX train into the city to visit the Aquarium at the Gateway Center, the LDS Church History Museum, and then to Temple Square to see the construction work being done on the Tabernacle to stabilize it against earth quakes. They also viewed the movie “The First Vision” at the Visitors Center. Following dinner at Chuck-a-Rama they made a last stop on their excursion at the new Cabela’s in Lehi. Can you guess which stop was the favorite? Carl M. Sorensen, son of Lane and Loreen Sorensen has been called to serve in the Washington D.C. North Mission of the LDS Church. Ad- What a great opportunity for some of the band students from Gunnison Valley Middle School and high school when they were invited to go to Nephi to hear and participate with the Dallas Brass, a great group that includes a drum, a French horn, a trombone, and oboe, and two fantastic trumpet players. One of the trumpet players lives in Hurricane, Utah. He is married and has four children. This group had the students come to Nephi to practice and had workshops to encourage the students to love music and their instruments. The middle school played with the group and presented “Star Wars”. The high school participated in the final number “A Salute to Freedom,” using all military songs. Everyone did a great job. Schools that participated were from Beaver, Delta, Juab, Gunnison, and Springville. Thanks, Mr. Hughes for giving our students great opportunities and also including parents to hear such talent. The Dallas Brass has played in every state except Maine and Hawaii, and now they have a tour planned for Hawaii. Dean Malmgren celebrated his 92nd birthday last week, Oct. 18, 2005.
