The Best Yet At I o'clock Saturday afternoon the Ephraim Depot grounds were swaim-In- g with people, and until J.-- 5 p. m. the crowd kept getting bigger and big ger, nd almost filled the entire street lor six blocks. The day was an one, being Saturday all the school children, who would otherwise have been in school, were there; Priesthood meeting drew numbers of visitors to the town, and these together with the visi tors who came from other towns for the occkssions, swelled the numbers until there must have been fully 1,500 people present. Material had been co'lected by the R. R. men under the direction oi Messrs Pom ell aud O'Coniiel. for a grand Hand, but the roof of a basement stable being handy and much larger was put to use, and the baud, speakers. Council com-mittee and reporters were stationed there under the care of Dr. V, H.Olsten, Marshal of the dav. Mayor ol Ephraim who bade the visitors welcome, and said ''We are please J to meet you hete a day which is auspicious and is laden with good omens. Not only to welcome our visitors and benefactors, but to show our gratitude. There is now a traflc road open to a market for our products, a market which has lor.g been divided from us. You have brought us the locomotive which will waft our products to the markets of the east with greater speed than the fam us Arab steed. The farmer, if he does not have labor for he teams in carry-ing his products to markets miles away, will receive a better reward for them, aud can devote more time to cultivat-ing his land and bringing larger returns fur his labor. The young man will see new enterpris-ing sptinging up and other enterprises greatly improved, it will bring new energies. Ry. met with a painful.and what ! might have been serious accident, on Wednesday near the Plaster mills at the mouth of the canyon. While leaning over the platform, looking toward th rear of the train, which was moving at a rapid rate, the switch bar, which is several feet nearer the track than it should be, struck him just behind the ear and knocked him sensless. Fortunately his grip on the Iron railing was tightened by the contracting muscle and his body was drawn back on th platform, where he foiled him-self upon recavering from the ttnn-nin- g blow. The engineer, Sam Parry, happened to see the perilous position in which Conductor Abbott was in, and reversed his engine, but not in time to prevent the accident. Mr.Abbott says his head is pretty sore, a gash three laches long being inflicted, but thinks it will be all right in a few days. The gTeat wonder is that it did not crush his skull or land him under the wheels of the moving train. He is at a com-plete loss to know how he escaped to well. All the twitch ban n the S. P.
