Show HOME AGAIN. The Free Press representative is home from his trip to the Pacific Pa-cific coast with the other Utah editors, edi-tors, on which they started a month ago. The trip was one of the most successful ever planned. Thanks to our president, D. P. Felt, for his successful and efficient management. manage-ment. So exact was the original itinerary that not one hitch, in time or place, was made during the whole trip, and even the weather seemed to be the result of special order. The press members feel themselves them-selves inexpressibly obligated to the different railroad and steamship steam-ship companies that furnished them transportation. Of these, the Southern Pacific, the Oregon Short Line, the Santa Fe, and the 0. R. & N. Co. deserve special mention. Then we must also thank the local press clubs, the Chambers of Commerce, Com-merce, the American Type Founders, Foun-ders, and other associations, as well as citizens of the, various places, for making our stays in the different differ-ent cities so pleasurable. The people peo-ple of the Pacific coast are a liberal, large-hearted and broad-minded people. They are not slow to see the great commercial advantage they have, and one who visits them is certainly struck with the enterprise enter-prise of the country, Nor is this all that interests the visitor; for what can be more inspiring, to one coming from inland, than to stand by the ocean beach, where on the one hand the broad -expanse of ever moving water rolls and thunders on the shore, and on the other the foliage and gigantic trees, the flow-ers flow-ers and orchards. And still we are not confined even to the panorama of the surface, but by a contrivance of glass-bottomed boats we are enabled en-abled to view the flower-gardens of the deep, Where the fishes are the gardeners, And they work without tools. We may find language that will express the beauties of a land-garden, but our language is too weak to express the beauties of the sea. The coast country is beautiful and delightsome, and though it charms us for a time, we are glad to get back to Utah again. CD |
