Jim Robison, the new superintendent at the Hideout Golf Course in Monticello, smiles most of the time, despite the fact that he is trying to grow n out a brand new, dollar golf course in what is one of the driest winters in recorded history. Last week was not a great week, as Robison fought gale force winds while trying to germinate grass seed. Robinson has a degree in horticulture from Utah State University and spent the past three years multi-millio- as greenkeeper at South Mountain Golf Course in Salt ably knows more about growing grass than anyone else in San Juan County. You may be surprised to know how little he is actually watering his grass. At the current time, the sprinkler heads on the twelve holes with established grass are operatingjust nine minutes a day. Robison states that it is possible to have a healthy stand of grass with a fraction of the water use that most of us put on our pampered lawns.
