World Scene Insulin Pioneer Dr. Best Dies Reuter News Agency Dr. Charles Herbert Best, the American-bor- n scientist whose work in the discovery of insulin has saved the lives of millions of diabetics, died at Toronto General Hospital Friday at 79. Dr. Best died after undergoing surgery for a ruptured abdominal artery and removal of material in his bloodstream. He was admitted on Sunday, a few hours after learning that one of his sons, Alexander, had died of a heart attack He helped to develop insulin, a pancreatic excretion used in the treatment and control of diabetes, when he Dr. Best was only 22. Dr. Best spent his life in research and in encouraging investigations into diabetes and related diseases. TORONTO A Charge Too Little ? Reuter News Agency THE HAGUE The Dutch General Accounting Office Friday criticized the Defense Ministry for failing to charge for the use of soldiers as extras in the film A Bridge Too Far. The ministry charged only for the use of military equipment, not for the troops, because it expected publicity for the Dutch army from the film. (' Brothel Charge Jails 9 Reuter News Agency MARSEILLES Eight men and a woman were jailed by a Marseilles court Friday for running a brothel disguised as a cultural center at a French Foreign Legion base. They received sentences from several months to six years. Six other men were fined and two women acquitted. None of the prostitutes or Legionnaires was prosecuted. The court was told that pimps sent the prostitutes to the brothel at the Legions regimental base at Calvi, Corsica, as punishment lor not earning enough money in Pans or Marseilles.
