Show POLITICAL PALAVER. Activity in Many States, Notwithstanding the Dog Days. Grand Rapids, Mich., An sr. IT. If the People's party leaders in this state have been cherishing any hopes of a coalition with the Democrats they have reckoned without their host, as tbey would realize if they could have overheard a little of the conversation that passed between the delegates to the Democratic state convention as they loitered around the hotels this morning waiting for the noon hour. The Democracy of Michi- gan has been patiently holding out the olive branch to the Populists ever since the presidential presi-dential nominations were made, but the third party convention, held a couple of weeks ago, ignored the Democrats and placed a ticket in the field that it would be Impossible for them to indorse. Conse- j quently, the Democrats are unsparing in their denunciation of the People's party, and say that if the state goes Republican it will be their fault. The race for the gubernatorial nomination is likely to throw further light on the Dick-inson-Campau tight which has been smoldering smolder-ing for the last six months. Campau and Dickinson both want to name their man for the head of the ticket. Dickinson declares that Campau is, and always has been, a traitor to Cleveland, and Ought to be ousted from his position at the head of the state Democracy. Then Don M. would like, in the event of a Democratic legislature, to be sent to the United States sonate, while Campau has given out that if the Democrats are to select a successor to Stockbridge he will do thc naming. For the governership, Allen B. Morse has the support of the Dickinson Dick-inson wing, while the Campau men are supporting sup-porting Governor Winans. The convention was called to order at high noon but the nominations will probably ' not be made until late in the evening or tomorrow tomor-row morning. , WINANS DECLINES-A RENOMIN ATION.
