The entertainment given by the deaf mutes of the Descret University last evening was a unique and interesting exhibition that was well attended. Prof. Metcalf, the principal, in a brief introductory address ulcomed Hie audience and announced that lie exhibition was for the purpose of illus. rating the progress of the institution. The roiiramnie was as follows: Addresses of Welcome, Libbie DeLong of Garfield county 14 years old, member of the lip reading class. First step in teaching the deaf. A class of beginners, consisting of ltiith Carter of Utah county, Ada Davis of Beaver county, l.illie Swift of Salt Lake, Pearl Ault of Utah county, Lyman Probert of Provo, Klgin Jacobson of Davis county. Second step A class of more advanced pupils: Mamie Young of Kane county, Elmo Kemp of Salt Lake county, Joe Keeley and Ole Petit of this city, Samuel Porter of Sevier county, Miss Stifllcr being instructor of both classes. Natural signs, representing fruits, by Lizzie Wood of this city; and representiug animals by Hathron Hadlock of Ogden.
