The management of that mine had been hunting for it for a long time, "probably over a year. The. shaft ou the Anchor had been sniuk GOO feet, when it be-came almost impossible, with any ordinary pumps, to hardly the water. The long, tun-nel was then started to tut the vein, believ-ing that would drain the uiiue; but it did not. The bottom of the fchuft was more lhau400 feet above. It was then decided to couneet the tunnel and bhaft by a drill hole-A- n attempt to do this was made, but when the drill was 325 feet deep it was lost in the hole. Since that time raises have been driven and drifts run in almost every direc-tion to lind that drill, unci this work was at last rewarded. The hole was lilled with tools :mu these were encased in cement so as to be impervious to water. When the drill w:it found it was purely accidental. The miners were cleaning out for a set of tim-bers when their picks struck that lor which so loii a search had been made. While here, last week Captain Henry, ac rorupanied by Judge Street, paid a vwt ti the workings of the Jupiter company, of which the captain is a director. He found fcverything in shipshape and says the pres-ent tunnel is one of the best pieces of work Ihe ever saw in that line.
