He tought to have the driver punished In court and failed, and when th driver referred ilighUngly to the failure he shot to kL ' : ' i it.is not difficult to understand the rage ji-hlch prompted the parent to avenge the Beath of Ws child. Similarly, It Is not difficult diffi-cult to understand the official Indifference to iutd accidents whfch precipitated the murder. too many reckless drivers hide behind the protection of unavoidable accidents. Often Ciey never appear In court, the Investigation closing with, the police reports. Not all acd- N "dents are- to be attributed to the recklessness ' of the drtrer. In the fatal Occident all concerned should be held to appear ap-pear in court, that the facts may be adequately ade-quately .'and fully determined.. Wherever It appears that manslaughter charges are Justified Justi-fied they should be pressed. In this way society can check any tendency on the part of bereaved parents to demand personal accountings account-ings from those the law has Ignored. The courts alone should absolve Individuals , Involved In-volved in fital accidents of responsibility. |
