Show $50,000 WORLD'S FAIR EXHIBITION IS PLANNED Senate Determined That Utah Shall Be Suitably Represented at the SL Louis Exposition. 'It ;the wishes of the Senate are carried car-ried out in the House, Utah's' showing at the St. Louis World's -fair may be one of which the State's citizens can be proud.- . . . A bill appropriating (50,000 for properly1 prop-erly1 exhibiting the r resources of the State at that exposition passed the upper up-per house yesterday with only one dissenting dis-senting vote, cast by Senator Gardner. He was outspoken against the measure, declaring that such fairs were farces, from , which few derived any bentflt.' and asserting that it would be better for the interests of the State to sprfnd the money on the district schools. Senators Johnson, Love. Sherman, C. P. Larsen, Bamberger and Barnes all argued that Utah .should make an exhibit ex-hibit that no citlsen would have cause to regret when contrasted Kith .those of other States. No other Senator would support Mr. Gardner's view of the case, and only his vote was recorded against the measure. A bill appropriating $10,000 for the Lewis and Clarke exposition was also passed by the same vote as the St. Louis measure. In addition to the World's Fair bills the Senate passed bill 125. substitute for Senate bill 34. providing for the payment pay-ment of $1 and 10 cents a mile one way for messengers carrying election returns re-turns to the county seats. , House bill 68 passed by unanimous vote." This provides for publishing as well as posting notices of trespassing animals before they are sold. House bill 71 passed in the same way. It provides pro-vides that the State Auditor shall publish pub-lish a list of all recorded marks and brands October 1st each year. Bills 89 and 112 were recommitted. The only new bill of the day. 132, Johnson, providing for a State chemist, was referred re-ferred -to the Committee on Public Health. The report of Senator Sherman, chairman chair-man of the special committee, declining the invitation to visit Idaho, was adopted. adopt-ed. The. report re-port of the Public Health, committee on bill 121, Williams, to prohibit the location loca-tion of pesthouses near streams was adopted. |
