Show CHICAGO ELECTION Great Interest Developed Over Municipal Ownership Owner-ship Question. CHICAGO, April 4. Ownership by the city of the street railways of Chicago Chi-cago was the principal !ssu in the municipal mu-nicipal election held here today. Franchises Fran-chises estimated to be worth 3200,000,-000 3200,000,-000 were Involved. John M. Harlan, Republican candidate for Mayor, favored fa-vored a tentative arrangement - with the traction companies providing for ultimate municipal ownership, while Judge Edward F.. Dunne, the Democratic Demo-cratic nominee, stood for Immediate ownership by the city. A number of other important Issues also were decided. de-cided. Democratic enthusiasts developed Increased In-creased hope as the balloting progressed, pro-gressed, the voting being slow in some of the Republican wards. Republicans ridiculed claims that the Democrats would carry any wards normally Republican. Re-publican. Democratic and Republican workers kept up a lively pace in the Twenty-first Twenty-first ward, the home of both John M. Harlan and Mayor Harrison. The result re-sult there was said to be decidedly In doubt. Municipal elections are also being held in cities in Nebraska, Kansas, Wisconsin, Colorado and several other States. |
