Show Veteran Editor Dead. PHILADELPHIA, March -V. H. McKean, who for nearly thirty vein was editor-in-chief of the Public Ledger, died at his bonne here Sunday at the age of 83 years. Although McKean prepared himself him-self to study law, he took up journalism In 1S0O. when he became associate editor with John W. Forney on the Pennsylvan-lan. Pennsylvan-lan. He served as chief clerk of the State House of Representatives from 1S53 to l&C and was secretary to James Buchanan pending the latter's election to the Presidency. Presi-dency. In 1864 Mr. McKean became editor-in-chief of the Ledger and retired In 1891 owing to old age. |
