Show Gen. Franklin Dead. HARTFORD. Conn., March 9. MaJ.-Gen. MaJ.-Gen. William Buell Franklin died last night at his home in this city, agted 80 years. Gmi. Franklin had been in poor health foreveral years, and had failed perceptibly since the death of his wife, three veara a ern. Gen. Franklin was graduated from West PoinfTn 1843. and was a classmate class-mate of Gen. U. S. Grant. He served in the Mexican war. In 1861 he was appointed Colonel of the Twelfth United States infantry, and immediately was made Brigadier-General of volunteers. In 1862 he was breveted Brigadier-General U. S. A. for gallant conduct before Richmond, and the same year was appointed ap-pointed Major-General of volunteers. Geny Franklin resigned from the army In 1866, with the rank of Major-General Major-General of volunteers and brevet Major-General U. S. A., and came to this city to live. He was made vice-president and general manager of the Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing company. com-pany. He was commissioner general for the United States to the Paris exposition expo-sition of 1888, and was decorated with the Legion of Honor. |
