Homemaker Assistance Offered to Residents If you are handicapped, a senior citizen or chronically ill, where can you go for help with routine daily chores? One answer is the Homemaker Service program of the Division of Family Services. This program helps preserve and strenghten home life as well as offering guide nee and assistance in planning meals, shopping, light laundry, ironing and personal care. Families can be torn apart by problems which we can help Elaine Bateson, solve, Mrs. director of the program said. "Our first priority is to unify the family. The program enables senior citizens and emotionally disturbed people to maintain a normal home life. It is not designed as a "maid service" for families able to pay for housekeeping help. "We encourge our families in doing for themselves as well as help them," Mrs. Bateson said, "These families enjoy the company, too, of our homemakers." Large families where the mother can't cope with daily chores are helped by the program. Homemakers show them how to budget, plan nutritious meals. seen primping and combing in front of a mirror on the days she was expected or was there. When Dad had an apparent heart attack, she accompanied him to the hospital to be certain they took proper notice and care of him. Dad died on March 29, 1972. When Pat came to the mortuary, she brought a single red rose as a symbol of her love for him. We placed that rose in the casket with Dad because we think he would have liked that. Devotion such as that shown by Pat Davis is not a marketable item and we feel you and other individuals for whom Pat works should be aware, as I'm sure you are, that she is priceless. Homemaking is a complex, full time job and many women need help in learning the basic skills necessary to manage their homes. "We want to help all who need our services," Mrs. Bateson emphasized. As her experience with them grew, she made positive suggestions on how we could improve their diet, etc. We appreciated that.
