Board School Volunteers Installation of a supplementary water main from 8th West to Jewell Ave to 21st South. Implemented the Community School concept in 8 schools in the model neighborhood. Currently serving approximately 14,000 participants a month. Developing a system of individualized instruction in the Redwood Elementary School. Primary grade activities include full reading, language and math. Intermediate grade programs are functional in the math and language areas. Developing an individualized learning system for experientially deprived children which includes an operational science, reading, math and humanities program for kindergarten through second grade students. Provides a comphrensive interdisciplinary child development program for 120 three and four year olds from the model neighborhood. Coordinated with Head Start and follows its basic curriculum structure. Parental involvement and social services are included. Recruits and trains volunteers to work in the classroom as 322-147- 1 Voluntary Improvement Program (VIP) 346 West First South 364-425- Community Action Program 2033 South State 487-364- 1 0 Provides tutoring, family and job counseling for the hard-cor- e unemployed in the model neighborhood. Tutors are from the neighborhood and the U. of Utah and work with the clientele e on a basis. 152 job referrals have been made and 65 job placements. Approximately 40 residents are served per week by tutors. one-to-on- Mental Health Out-Patie- nt Program Children's Therapy Unit 27 "C" Street Salt Lake Community Mental Health 837 E. South Temple 328-056- 8 Project has two major sections: Children's Therapy Unit - provides therapy to children with psychology, social and neurological problems. Has served 50 children. The program has also developed a good volunteer program for foster grandparents and work study students. Westside Outreach Unit 870 West 4th South Westside Outreach Unit - The unit is strategically located and is easily accessable. The Unit serves residents with emotional and psychological 328-036- 5 problems. Neighborhood Health Nurse Specialist Redwood Trailer, 2610 South Redwood Road Community Action Program 2033 South State St. -- e Northwest 1300 West 2nd North Multi-purpos- 322-128- 1 487-364- 1 This project is responsible for providing health services to two geographical areas. Redwood and Northwest. The two clinics provide family planning, immunization, prenatal care and general health care. Center Balance of Projects Will Be in March 16 Issue. |
