Show OREGON sumter american manager T J has started a small crew at development work at the black jack mine the black jack property is on clear creek about a mile above the red boy mine it has been quite extensively developed but for th past year the mine has been inae inactive I 1 some very good ore has been encountered in the black jack workings baker city herald the famous white swan mine from which many fortunes have been been taken and in which a few fortunes have been lost was sold today at trustees sale to D W french of baker city the mine went into the hands of a receiver some time ago and geo D cullen of this city was appointed to care for the mine and was also appointed trustee the mine was ordered sold and mr cullen received bids until noon today when they were opened and mr french was found to be the highest bidder the necessary papers were made out and the sale was confirmed by the court grants pass courier the gold king mining property situated on josephine creek about four miles from kerby herby and owned by D T evans and associates of fort worth tex was visited and examined by adolph maier a prominent metallurgist and chemist of colorado in behalf of the owners he states that in his opinion the property is warranting more development work or in other words the development work performed upon same only proves that more should be done in order to determine the full extent of the ore body and its values as the previous development performed upon the property is of no great value to the owners and does not amount to very much in the way of development he found several tons of ore on the dump some of which showed quite a good deal of free gold and as a whole of good milling value which irad had been taken out of the two shafts thirty and seventy feet respectively neither of which were sunk on the main pay chute |
