employed ved in delivering black diamonds to the large and small consumers to innumerable families for cul inary and heating purposes to foundries and manufactories manu factories to the electric light and power plants and to users of coal in varied and numerous capacities taking up the matter of the use of coal from an individual standpoint and judging the situation from his own capacity to utilize coal in various ways the observer naturally asks I 1 how can the enormous quan city used be supplied in looking over the avenues and channels through which this large amount of fuel is fed when it is considered that people in salt lake must depend upon CO coal al to ft a large extent for their comfort that the masses are heavy consumers and thata that a scarcity of fuel would cause as ni much ch discomfort almost as would a shortage in foodstuffs food stuffs of water and of at clothing the wonder thenis that the supply is equal to the demand and from indifference on the subject interest is excited and the thinking man begins to speculate upon the source of supply he begins an investigation to learn for his own satisfaction if the bulk of coal consign ments received by salt lake dealers is a home product or whether it Is shipped in from other states and his pride is touched his patriotism is gratified and his business instincts are pleased when ho he finds that a 11 large proportion of the coal consume din salt lake ogden and other portions of the state and of the west is the output of utah mines and that the coal is of excellent and even superior quality giving
