Show Meeting of "Non-Mormon Tax 1 Payers." Last evening there was another meeting of "Non-Mormon taxpayers" held in Hussey 's hall, attended by about one hundred gentlemen. By acclamation, General Conner was elected chairman, Judge Haydon and j L. Cohn, Assistants ; W. P. Appleby and S. A. Gould, secretaries. Mr. Gilchrist, secretary of the committee com-mittee appointed at the last meeting to confer with leading Mormons, and ask a representation in tlie City Council, reported that the only person per-son who had authority to speak Brigham Young was absent, and that the committee had addressed notes to fifteen prominent Mormons asking them to meet the committee, and they had received no reply. The committee had received a reply from the note addressed to Mayor Wells, which stated that he had no authority to act in the matter; and suggesting that the proper time -to make nominations nomin-ations of candidates for municipal offices would be at a mass meeting of the people, which would doubtless be held shortly. The report was received and the committee was discharged. i Mr. Kobertson moved that a com- I mittee of seven be appointed by the chair to nominate candidates for all ' the city offices a Btraight-out non- Mormon ticket. Speeches were made j by Messrs. R. H. Robertson, J. Chis- c lett, E. M. Barnum, R. N. Baskin, j and H. W. Lawrence. Some of the speakers were opposed to nominating a straight-out Gentile ticket, for the c reason that they had not enough votes c to carry the election. Some stated c that they could never carry an elec- s tion here so long as the numbering of ballots was practiced at the polls, for fi Mormons dared not vote as they want- f ed to from fear of the Mormonchurch P authorities; and all were more or less abusive of the manner in which elec- tl tions and the municipal government d were carried on in this city. Mr. Chisleit proposed as an amend- c ment to Robertson's motion, that the S meeting would adopt a series of reso- o lutions setting forth the grievances of h the non-Mormon party, and praying b to Congress to legislate in their be- c hajf. After considerable argumeut s; for and against, the amendment was c lost, as were also other amendments k of a similar character; and the origin- a al motion carried. a The chair then appointed Messrs. v R. H. Robertson, L. Cohn, G. Stecll, M. B. Callahan. V. Havdnn. C. C. Clements, D. J. Toohy, M. McKim-mins McKim-mins and K. Boukofsky, a committee to nominate a ticket. Haydon declining, de-clining, as the nominating of a ticket lid nut meet his approbation, H. W. Lawrence was appointed in his stead. The chair then named forty-five enttemen to serve on the committee,, ivith J. R. Walker as chairman. Mr. Giiohrist offered a resolution instructing in-structing the above committee to prepare pre-pare a memorial to Congress, setting forth the grievances of the nou-Mor-Mormons in Utah, and requesting that body to legislate for the 'protection 'protec-tion oTall classes here.
