Frelinghuysen, by request, introduced intro-duced a bill giving the American and East Indies telegraph company the right to have and maintain lines of telegraph tele-graph cables between tho American and Asiatic coasts. The Indian appropriation bill was passed and the senate adjourned. HOUSE. Hill, from the post office committee, reported a bill abolishing the franking privilege from and after tho 1st of Julv, 1S73. After soma debate tho bill was recommitted, thus virtually killing it. McCrary, from the committee on elections, made an adverse report on the petition to take testimony in the contested con-tested election caso of Schenck against Campbell. The house went into committee on the senate amendments to tho legislative appropriation bill, discussed the question ques-tion of appropriating $50,000 for civil service reform, and, without a vote, adjourned. |
